Hello wizardofoz,
The 12,000 BTU Window Air Conditioner with Cool, Heat and Remote, Model # LW1214HR is a 208/230 Volt unit and I am assuming that by 'house current' you're referring to 100-120 Volt 15 Amp sockets, so the answer is no! A qualified electrician could install the right socket for you to be able to use this unit, but it will not work in the standard 100-120 Volt socket!...IFV

I installed this unit in a rental house and the tenant is complaining about high humidity. It makes me think the unit isn't pulling moisture out of air correctly. Could this be an issue with the way I installed it?

Hello Daniel. It may not be the way that the LG 12,000 BTU Window Air Conditioner with Cool, Heat and Remote, Model # LW1214HR is installed more than whether or not it is the right size for the room in which it is installed. The BTU rating for this Air Conditioner is ideal for a room of 550 square feet (i.e. 22 x 25 feet) When an air conditioner's BTU is much more than required (what is referred to as being "oversized") it doesn't necessarily provide better cooling. An oversized air conditioner is actually less effective and wastes energy at the same time. Air conditioners remove both heat and humidity from the air. If the unit is too large, it will cool the room quickly, but only remove some of the humidity. This leaves the room with a damp, clammy feeling. A properly sized unit will remove humidity effectively as it cools...^IFV Read Less

Hello Denbie,
Thank you for your inquiry.
Since the 12,000 BTU Window Air Conditioner with Cool, Heat and Remote, Model # LW1214HR can be used both for heating and cooling it does raise an interesting question as to whether or not to keep it covered up under a winter cover!
The question of whether or not to cover your AC is a hotly debated topic. On one hand, some people believe that in the winter, it is recommended to either cover your room air conditioner or remove and store it even if most air conditioner manuals do not mention covering the AC unit during colder months, it doesn't mean that it’s always the best measure of what to do with a piece of hardware. Covering the outdoor unit of a central air conditioner will protect the unit from winter weather and debris. The air conditioner's evaporator coil and condenser coil collect dirt over their months and years of service and in time, however, the evaporator coil will still collect dirt. This dirt reduces airflow and insulates the coil, reducing its ability to absorb heat. A winter cover helps to keep the evaporator clean and helps avoid this problem because a lot of things can go wrong with an air conditioner units when it’s left in the elements. The coils in the air conditioner are designed for a certain efficiency level and as they get dirty or bent or covered up your AC will begin to lose its efficiency and may not cool your home as well or at least as cheaply as it once did. The longer and harder your AC has to work to cool your home, the more electricity you use, the more expensive it is to run it. So it’s pretty important to keep your outside air conditioner coils free of as much dust, dirt, leaves, bugs, small animals and other outside yard debris as you can.
Then on the other hand some will argue that air conditioners are built to be sturdy and to stand up to all kinds of weather year after year. A typical central air conditioner should last you ten years or more with some basic air conditioner maintenance from time to time. Most air conditioner manuals do not mention covering the AC unit during colder months.
The argument in this case being that covering up your air conditioner in the winter months could create a high humidity environment as the sun beats down on the cover. Inside this moist environment are your electrical windings, wiring connections, and in some cases circuit boards. None of these items do well in the moisture and service call from failed electrical components/compressor windings will be far more expensive than a little elbow grease come spring time. The conditioners are intend to be installed outside and unless the manufacture included a specific cover at purchase which will be designed with proper venting - DON'T COVER!
So the question is what do you feel more comfortable with?...IFV

Hi Andurilsilme,

The current refrigerant being used in just about every unit requiring cooling nowadays is the chlorine-free R-410A which is sold under the trademarked names Forane 410A, Puron, EcoFluor R410, Genetron R410A, and AZ-20.
R-410 cylinders are colored pink!...IFV

Rated 4.5 out of 5 by 8 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by LG Electronics - LW12 Bought this unit 2 years ago when renovating my home and it has already stopped working......runs constantly and does not cool. Very disappointing product. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] May 17, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Awesome Produce I purchased this A/C to go in my garage. In the past, I had to use a 5000 btu window A/C unit in my shop to help cool my garage. In the winter, I had to use 3 portable heaters in the shop and garage. With this unit, I not only get the A/C I want but a bonus of heat along with it. It is a very good looking unit and would look good in any room. The remote control was a surprise and I love it. This unit also has a energy setting that keeps the unit completely off until it is needed. I really like that feature because it is not constantly running and using energy. I would recommend this unit to anyone who is looking for a A/C heat unit for their house. August 31, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by great AC for our use Use in the upstairs of our storage building. Works great , does everything we expected August 22, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by An outstanding Product for the Price Purchased this to heat and cool an outside deck that we converted to an enclosed type cottage. Winter has set in and we were able to get everything done except insulation. Recently temps fell to 14 degrees in the Smokey Mountains and this unit was able to take an 18 x 16' room, with an open attic, and within 30 minutes raise the temp from 20 degrees to near 40. After another 30-45 minutes and with some assistance from a small floor unit, because of the extremely windy conditions, the room was near 60 degrees and very tolerable. The unit is quiet, considering the amount of air is blows. The remote control feature works clear across the room. If I could find one bad thing to say, and it's not really bad, that's that I wish the I could program the heat to come on at a certain time, like I can the A/C. It was easy to install and came with everything I needed. A superior product and worth the accolades! Keep it up LG! November 22, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great little cooler The ladies in the front office were melting until I got this little guy in their window. It is more potent, quieter and uses less energy than the previous one but because it is more technologically advanced it has all that but in a smaller package allowing me to get a higher BTU unit. Thank you LG. Thanks to you the ladies can work in a more comfortable office..... and wear their parkas in June. Now if only you guys sold vacations, the business world would be a better place. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by This product performs well and has good features Previous LG a/c unit was 9 years and 4 months old. Replaced it with another LG unit that is a heat / cool all in one. The a/c works excellent. Soon I will test out the heater. Very happy with LG! November 5, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Happy with purchase This product works well and has nice features (the remote is a plus). The only downside is that it uses a lot of electricity and my bill has gone up noticeably since it was installed. However, I do live in Phoenix so it's difficult to know how much of the increased electric bill is due to the unit and how much is due to high temperatures. July 5, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by this product is very easy friendly to use, love it I bought my Lw1214HR air conditioner in December of 2013 and it is absolutely wonderful, both cooling & heating work very well & very quiet and I love the energy control feature.it's a little pricey but I'm satisfied,it's a hit you won't miss.
