I have had this unit six years this month and its still going strong. I didn't buy the ext warranty but I can see why there is concern of rust. The only downside to this unit is that it ice's up and leaks quite a bit of water into the pan. What I did is make a small hole for it to drain which I would not recommend unless you know something about AC units. If you drill to far you will hit the coolant line and you will have just ruined your ac unit. Other than that its a very good buy.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by cburden Lasted till 1yr warranty expired!
I have owned several window ac units, as i live in an old cbs home that never had central! I purchased 08/13 and expected to last at least 3 years "my last GE unit lasted almost 5yrs". By 9/14 I noticed the unit wasn't cooling!! I removed the filter to inspect the coil, and of course the unit was iced over! This usually indicates the unit is low on Freon! I removed the unit and noticed alot of rust for it only being used 13months. Lg makes the unit a sealed unit with no service ports, so when the units break they become scrap. No Good!!! After spending almost $400, I would expect to get at least 2-3 yrs!!! A waste of money!!!!

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by huntcliff LG 12000 BTU Air Conditioner
Be aware that the standard 5 year warranty for air conditioners has been changed from 5 years for parts and labor --- new warranty is 1 year parts and labor.
In the Florida environment my past two units lasted 4 years and 2.5 years. Due to the slinger fan (energy star effeciency is improved) creates a wet environment inside the cabinet. After 2-3 years the unit will have extreme rust damage ..... warranty is then voided .... this voided warranty is a design defect of excess rusting.
Buy a 3 year HomeDepot extended warranty. HomeDepot
Manager assured me home depot will deal with the rust.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Glyn Once installed it worked very well
I think LG should work on trying to make the instructions and pictures just a little more vague. Seriously though, the instructions and pictures are awful....
I had to drill a hole for the window sill support that was missed on the underside of the unit. Was drilled on one side but not the other.
The guide panels for the side curtains were not tall enough to fit around the unit, causing them to bow considerably and required a lot of extra insulation around the sides to compensate for the gaps.
The front grill is very poorly made and does not snap into place well at all.
Despite the installation issues the unit performs very well and cools our back sunroom quickly.
Somewhat disappointed with the poor instructions and installation pieces but unit does work well.

Doe not cool very fast. Takes a lot to keep a 500 Sq ft area cool. Tough to get below 75.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Rick A very good air conditioner and a great price
I installed it and we use it daily. It does a great job for the room we installed it in. I would recommend this product to everyone I know. The remote control and the timer are great features.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Cookie46 Great once installation was done.
The instructions for this unit were not written by English speaking people and even the pictures are not accurate. It took a great deal of translating but we finally got it done. Love the remote. The sound is not loud. It does cool the room. Timed delay to start or stop is a good idea. Wish it had a read out to explain if it is on air condition or fan part of cycle so I'd understand if it's done cooling and into fan. My thermometer is not right beside the unit. Room temp reading would be nice also. Maybe next year guys?

The unit works great and easy to install with the separate casing that it slides in and out of. Did bend a piece of pastic that kept division fom front to back by forcing it,but got it back in place. The only problem is it does not Dehumitify as well as I thought it would but did get a unit too big for room size which can cause this to happen.
