I needed to replace my 10,000 btu LG that broke and I needed to upgrade cause it wasn't quite cool enough to get me through the phoenix summers. At first, I saw all of the good reviews on the 12,000 btu Kenmore at Sears and bought one. It wasn't nearly as cold as the 10,000 btu LG so I took it back and went to HD and got this 12,000 btu beast. This is a good upgrade and it is quiet. Way quieter than the Kenmore and the LG it replaced.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Bubba Works great so far
Purchased at Home Depot for the asking price of $350. I thought it was easy to install. I mean really; how hard is it to put a unit in a window? Runs great. It's 106 degrees outside and it's 68 degrees in my man cave. Are you kidding me? I have it on energy savings. humms like a summer breeze through pine trees. I've had nothing but good luck with LG from cell phones to TVs to ACs. Of course I purchased the extended warranty just in case. Maybe folks are having trouble installing because it weighs 80 pounds plus, but did I mention that it's in a MAN cave? If you need help lifting call many mans in your area to help. Some may be in caves NOT sweating.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by gh77 DIFFICULT INSTALLATION & doesn't blow well to the left
If you look closely at the CR recommendation of this model it says "much harder to install that other models." I didn't notice that, to my own detriment. You have to unscrew the actual machine from the outer casing (something that would nullify the warrantee for any other machine) in order to screw the metal outer frame to the window sill. Then you have to slide the unit into the frame. I have had to screw in a window jam on other models but this has you screw in three separate screws for the bottom part of the frame and then two others for the blinds on the side of the machine. Also, instead of sliding the blinds on either side of the frame in they have you screw 8 separate screws to secure the blind to the machine (they don't go in easily). It was a humid, mild night last night so I had the machine on for the whole downstairs. Nothing went up to the second floor like it had done in the past with my 10,000 BTU Frigidaire. This morning it was cool downstairs (not that big of a feat since it is 60ish outside) but also clammy and humid. Also, CR review says it blows best to the right (facing the machine) and it really doesn't go left well at all eventhough there are horizontal and vertical louvers. Basically, after having installed 6+ window air conditioners before this was absolutely ridiculous to install and not worth the effort. However, now that it is screwed into the window frame I am going to be stuck with it. Buyer beware, go with a model you get out of the box and stick in the window. Also, the "directions" would be very difficult for someone who hadn't done this before- the pictures are miniscule and the text is bare to say the least. Finally, the remote is the most basic, cheap thing I have ever seen and needs to be completely in front of the machine to work. There are a number of different notes in the literature and a bright yellow sign in the box saying not to return the unit until you call LG. I have a feeling a lot of these are going to be returned. Nothing about this merits the trouble.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by MNDP Lg 12000 BTU ac
I am truly delighted with the LG 12000 BTU AC. I use it in my 20x20 sunroom that has lots of windows. Even on 90+ degree days the area is very comfortable. I use a box fan in the doorway to move the cool air to other rooms. It easily cools 1000 square feet.
One reviewer who owned rental properties said that the LG brand lasted longer than other units he had used. That information coupled with the high rating given by other reviewers is what most influenced my decision.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by hemific this product meets my requirements and is a very good replacement for a 15 yr old unit
Easy to install and very solid in window, also very quiet. Once the area is to temperature I expect the energy saving feature will save a fair amount of cost. The weather has not become hot yet but I have high hopes for good performance.

My wife and I have been enjoying this air conditioner and still have it installed in our window. We use the fan mode often. We also love that it alerts you to clean the filter, which is a very simple thing to do.

The Air Conditioner arrived when expected. It took a little effort to put it together - mostly because it is large you have to install support brackets, in addition due to its girth - getting it into the window was challenging. Doable but challenging. We have the smaller version and use it in a bedroom. The cycling on and off is a bit annoying but it is only used when the humidity is high.
We used it to cool off an area of about 800 square feet. It is doing the job! Can't complain. It is not in a bedroom but off of a bedroom so noise is not a factor.
