Customer Questions & Answers

The Unit has both a pump and a small drain hose and a drain plug at the bottom. Finding the exactly correct fittings to use the bottom drain can be difficult. The seal between the units threaded drain and a drain hose must be a hose type rubber gasket, or use automotive silicon sealer/equivalent. I ended up using a supply/drain kit for dishwashers that had the needed hose and various adapters.

The unit I have is a 120v 60hz unit. Variants are available in different markets at different voltages and frequency(50hz). To directly answer your question, yes, I have 220/240 VAC @ 60Hz available at 20A per leg. It's often referred to as "Split" because it's 120 from each leg to neutral, and 220-240 between legs. (Common US residential configuration) When I lived in Germany, the residential power was 50Hz, and 220-240 from each of the three legs to ground. I don't remember the exact leg to leg voltages.

Are replacement parts available for this unit?

I purchased a similar unit (another brand), and the fan broke after 1 season. They didn't make replacement parts so I had to scrap it. Before I buy this unit I want to know it can be fixed if needed in the future. Also, is this unit still being manufactured? Thanks

No, no place or from any company. No service centers in Southern California will work on LG units of this type=Portable airconditioners

Cooling Stops After 2 Minutes

This unit is being used in a 500 sq ft living room and kitchen area. It's not cooling off the room at all. I have the AC's thermostat set at 68 degrees because I want to cool off the room quickly since it's almost 80 degrees in here. The AC starts to cool, but only runs for less than 2 minutes and then the fan kicks on. The fan will stay on for several minutes and then the AC will kick on. The AC doesn't run long enough to do any good. Please help as this will be a pain to take back to the store.

Customer Reviews

14,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner with Heat, Dehumidifier, and Remote is rated 2.8 out of 5 by 24.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Either I got a Lemon or this model has problems I bought this unit in mid-June to heat and cool a 500 square foot utility room for our pets. It never really cooled well and seemed to put the moisture it pulled from the air right back into the room, so I stupidly bought a de-humidifier to compensate. About a month into use, it seemed to start cooling better, but then started dripping water from the bottom (NOTE: never was there an alert on the control panel that the tank was full or anything else). It wasn't leaking too bad so I called LG - twice. Both the troubleshooting steps they had me do increased the rate of leakage. Bottom-line: I bought another brand with the same functions except heat and it worked 3-4 times as good as the more expensive LG right out of the box and hasn't leaked yet. If, due to humidity here, I have to install a drain it will be easy to do and the manual for my new unit is written in sufficiently effective English that I know just how to do it. In retrospect, I should have taken it back within the first week. Kudos to Home Depot - They took the unit back and fully refunded the purchase price. They are good people. LG, not so much.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from quit again first one didn't cool at all, got a replacement at home depot, it worked about 2 weeks. home depot didn't have anymore in stock, told me to call 800 number for service, weeks passed waiting for home service, got a call, no home service in my area, sent me another new one. stopped cooling yesterday, i can hear the compressor coming on, not happy

Rated 1 out of 5 by from JUNK!! Worst purchase EVER! As a person that has owned several portable AC's I can confidently tell you that this is an absolute piece of junk! Doesn't cool AT ALL, compressor shuts off within 3 minutes of starting. I had this thing running at 60 degrees for 48 hours in a 300 sq ft room in the middle of a heatwave. The room right now is 93 degrees!! Basically this thing works like a low-power fan (yes, I understand there is an actual fan setting, this is not what I mean). I even insulated the hose thinking perhaps too much heat was escaping because it was absolutely blowing my mind that something like this could seriously allow a room to get to get to 93 degrees while set at 60! My poor dogs had to be draped in frozen towels. Horrible! Read the reviews on other sites, you will see the same thing! Wish I knew this before I purchased it in-store!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Heat not worth extra money Got this unit last summer, worked fine as air conditioner. BUT - heater not worth the extra cost. Runs for very short time and stops because water tank is full. Starts beeping and will not stop! Can only be emptied by touching two buttons, can not be done automatically and humidifier can not be turned off. Will not run all night!!!!! Colder the weather the worse it works. AND - is very loud. Will not get another one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exactly the A/C & Heat we needed We have a summer cottage built in 1938 with no insulation. Approximately 1,400 square feet. The past few summers have a few weeks hitting upper 90s and high humidity. Conversely spring/fall the mornings are in the low 50s. This unit has operated perfectly. It comes with everything you need right out of the box. Take it out of the box plug it in, connect the exhaust hose, place it in the window and poof it works. This 14k btu unit cools and heats the entire first floor with no problem. Drop 20 degrees the first hours and then able to maintain mid 70s with no problems even when outside is 97+ (again even with no insulation) I will buy a second unit for upstairs. The only surprise was in HEAT mode, they highly suggest a separate bucket (not included) to remove humidity from the air. It does this very well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Absolute Best! It works as designed and advertised. It's relatively quiet, especially considering that it's in the room with you. I live in the Arizona desert, even now it runs about 12 hours a day with no problems. Since the day I installed it, I have not run my central air conditioner once and consequently have cut my electricity expenses by almost 50%. That's about $200. I could not find this unit on sale or even sold anywhere else. Believe me, I searched. It's well worth the money even if I don't get a few years out of it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Broken from the Get Go Installed it, plugged it in, immediately got an error message and it wouldn't work. Called LG's customer service. Turns out it has to be serviced and no one can get out to service it for 8 days. We will be returning it to a local store tonight.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from NOTHING BUT PAIN As we had waited several weeks for our online order to arrive, we decided to attempt to work with LG directly when our machine did not work coming out of the box. Big mistake!! After multiple telephone calls to customer service, LG eventually admitted they had no one in the area willing to fix the thing. We are still without air conditioning and are awaiting return instructions and hopefully some day a functioning machine. Sale or no sale, this product was not worth the money.
