After reading reviews and realizing that those complaining clearly do not know much about air conditioners, I bought this and installed in a (what will be) 2 bedroom apartment. Been running in Texas through construction and holding 70 degree temp without a problem. Yes, the compressor comes in and off (as it could, that is what the thermostat is for) the instruction were a bit unclear, and only having 1 prior window shaker, I wasn't familiar with the install. I still installed in my own even for as heavy as the unit is. There is a "power saving mode" which shuts the fan off when the compressor isn't running, I found this to be slightly annoying so I just leave it in cool and let the fan run to circulate air better. My advice, get the appropriate size unit for your space, oversized units will leave the air cool and humid (also a complaint I read)

LG refuses to honor the warranty since we didn't install this in a home. So forget about getting what you pay for if this goes in your office, school, or industrial application. Compressor gave out after 11

This Air Conditioner is so powerful we used the room that it cools as a cold storage for food.

Installed this a/c unit in May of 2013 and started using in June 2013. The thermostat switch stopped working within a week. When we turn it on it goes straight to 60 degrees and cranks ice cold air constantly to keep it at 60 degrees, and the control switch does not work at all. (Coincidentally, it also cranks the electric bill to the max) There was no remote in the box and the a/c was a biotch to install so we just decided to leave it as is. I called LG and they are being nice and sending a remote control but if that doesn't work this thing is going to be a ridiculous mess to replace. We have 3 other LG air conditioners and only 1 is still working. We are incredibly unhappy about this and now must figure out how to replace all these a/c's!

We've used two inexpensive LG units I expected to last a couple of seasons and they are on their 5th year with one of them finally indicating it's reached the end of it's life.
Had no reservations about installing this LG 240V 18,000BTU unit in our retirement home.
Instructions are (as they all are nowadays - something all instructions need to work on) clunky and almost laughable as an aid to getting the unit in a window but a short "sit down" with the parts and it all made sense.
Installed with ease (two people). Currently asking more of it than it will eventually be required to do and it's doing a fine job in an incredibly sweltering summer.
I cannot speak to longevity but making me and the wife very happy for the time being.
Three stars because I can't comment on longevity which is a significant consideration.

Awful AC. I'm on my 2nd 230v unit in 2.5 years. Both died half way into the second season. It still runs, but the cooling pump only turns on intermittently rendering it basically useless. Now it's just an expensive fan! The exact same thing happened to the first unit. It's big heavy and expensive. I will never buy another LG product again. Btw, just remembered I had a 3rd smaller unit that malfunctioned the same way after a year. That's 3 LG AC's that lasted 1.5 NY summers. Never ever ever again!!!

Bought and installed this unit on July 1. By July 15 the "Energy Saver" feature was not working correctly - the fan would turn off and not come back on at all. Tried to schedule warranty service online only to discover that option was "not available" at that time. Then I did a customer review on the LG website, and they did not post it! I guess I now know why the warranty went from 5 years last year to just 1 year this year. Don't think I will purchase another LG product.
