Customer Questions & Answers

How many Watts does this unit use?

Asked by: kevin
Your inquiry is appreciated! The 18,000 BTU Window Air Conditioner with Cool, Heat and Remote, Model # LW1814HR can run at 208V or at 230 Volts, so the wattage, which is the product of Volts X Amperage will vary according to the voltage and whether or not you're cooling or heating. At 208V, the cooling wattage is 1800W and heating uses 3100. At 230V cooling uses 1,850W and heating uses 3,670W. Keep in mind that these are average numbers and will vary according to the Voltage which alternates all the time(AC) Your Electrical bill gives you a more accurate usage chart per minute or per hour that the unit is on and running!...IFV

What is the average cost of operating the heat unit.

Asked by: okie
Your inquiry is most appreciated. To give you the average cost of operating the heat unit would require several things. I would need to know your electrical cost per kilowatt hour( as shown on your electricity bill) and then I would need to know how much you use the unit per day. I would also need to see the information for the heat unit as specified on your type plate on the unit itself. It probably is different from what you see listed on the product page. Since I don't have that, I can calculate a ball park number using an assumed number of hours per day (say 8hrs) and use the 12 cents per kWH as done on the EnergyGuide on the Home Depot Site for this product. The specs for heating at 230V and 208V are given as 3100W and 3670W.Assuming you use this feature for 8hrs per day. Not to sc are you because 8hrs a day is not realistic, but running the heat unit for that long at 230V would cost you $89.28/month and running it at 203V would cost you more at $105.70/month. You can calculate it represent something closer to your actual usage by using the 3100W@230V by the number of hours you'll use it a day then divide that number by1000 to convert watts to kilowatts(kWH) and do the same for the 3670@203V to get the kWH for that. Then multiply the kWh by the number of days a month you're likely to use the unit and multiply the numbers you get from that for each scenario by how much you pay for your electricity/kWh and you have your answer!...IFV

i have a space 17"h x 26"w can this unit just slide into the slot and shold a sleeve be used with it

Asked by: ivanna
Hi, First and foremost, you absolutely cannot and should not use a sleeve on a Window Air Conditioner! Covering up the louvers in its side case will not only reduce it's efficiency but could lead to the unit burning itself out! The 18,000 BTU Window Air Conditioner with Cool, Heat and Remote, Model # LW1814HR is designed for installation in standard double hung windows with actual opening widths from 29" to 41". The top and bottom window sashes must open sufficiently to allow a clear vertical opening of 18" from the bottom of the upper sash to the window stool. As you can see from the window requirements for installation, your window is too short and not wide enough!...IFV

Customer Reviews

18,000 BTU Window Air Conditioner with Cool, Heat and Remote is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth the money After doing my research for window units that provide heating and cooling, I went with LG due to many other positive reviews I read. I picked this one up for a small rent house and since the window it was going in was ground level, installation couldn't be any easier! The unit kept the 740sq ft. efficiency apartment comfortably warm with it being in the 20s outside. I love the fact it has a remote, timer, programmable thermostat and automatically comes back on in the case of a power outage. It has not been warm enough yet to see how the air conditioning works yet. Looking at some BTU charts, I tried to get a window unit that was more than the recommended size just to make sure the temperature inside will be nice.
