I need to replace an old Sears Kenmore window air conditioner which runs off a 220 v. Are the newer models requiring a 230 V ? Would a 220 V fall in the range of 208/230?

LG, are you saying it will continue to dehumidify even after the cooling temperature is reached? I am concerned about humidity if the unit doesn't run enough.

The LG 18,000 BTU Window Air Conditioner with Cool, Heat and Remote, Model # LW1814HR has a dehumidifying function on it that removes up to 4.0 pt. of moisture from the air in an hour to control humidity but removes moisture without further cooling. As to whether or not it can be used as a dehumidifier, it already does just that. Air Conditioners and Dehumidifiers are functionally the same, using the same mechanism to produce different results. The differences between the 2 is that while Air Conditioners exhaust the warm air outside, dehumidifiers dump it inside which negates the cooling effect. Air conditioners and dehumidifiers both condense moisture on the cooling coils. Air conditioners pool the condensate in a pan which drains to the exterior.
Dehumidifiers are designed to pull water from the air and generally have a water reservoir with a hose attachment port for dedicated drainage. They have automatic shutoffs to prevent spillage when you forget to turn the machine off. The big difference is that the air in a dehumidifier first passes over a series of cooling coils (the evaporator) and then immediately over a set of heating coils (the condenser) and then back into the room as dryer air with its temperature elevated as opposed to an air conditioner where the air passes over the cooling coils (the evaporator) and then directly into the room making you more comfortable since it not only removes moisture from the room air, it also cools it!...^IFV

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Beating the summer heat in Florida After having a unit like this for 12 years my old one finally gave out. Why couldn't it give out during the cooler weather. Well, I did my research and found that this LG unit is extremely quite, cold from the start. We put it on 76 degrees, energy level and it keeps the whole house very comfortable. This not a "window shaker" as some people think. We have other LG products and have had a great experience with them.Plus the 10 % discount for retired military helped in buying. September 9, 2014
