Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by UncleBobP Have to tweak it
2.5 years later after leveling the actual tub NOT the machine, works well Still get the dreaded UE from hap hazardly placing load.
As to the clothing smelling its true ! Just change detergent went from Tide to All made a difference. Also started using a fabric softener. Its really only a 4 setting machine-delicates, heavy bedding, (small) normal and fast wash. ALL loads require a pre-soaking !
Due to the learning curve to properly tweak the machine 4 stars. Checked would recommend BUT ONLY with the tweaks ! The leveling of the actual tub is critical !

I've owned this machine less than 2 years. I've not had a lot of issues with unbalancing like others BUT I now have the LE code. I called LG and was told that they would send a service tech out for a mere $299; that is half of the cost of a washer not even 2 yrs old. When I said that I was told they could do the payment over 3 months. How is that any better? I'm so upset. I have slowly replaced nearly all of my household appliances with LG but I'm now doubting my decision. I'm calling an independent repairman but if the repair cost is estimate to be more than $250; I'm just going to buy a new non-LG machine.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by ab The worst washing machine, stay away from it.
Bought this washing machine 2 1/2 years ago. Approximately 6 months after purchase, washing machine kept becoming unbalanced and gave the "UE" code. Called manufacture and they informed us that all of the motherboards were bad. They came and switched in out. Did not fix the problem. They came out again and changed the motor, still didn't fix it. They came out again and tried to level the washing machine. This went on for two years and it still does it. The problem is that it remains unbalanced, does not clean the close properly and it runs up the electric and water bill because it keeps cycling through the rinse cycle. Waste of money. Stay away from this machine.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by JDCONSUMER Washer goes off balance VERY often
We have owned this machine for nearly two years and it has been an expensive disaster. Any load that contains anything like towels, cotton bedding or anything else that tends to absorb a lot of water and be "heavy" in the machine will be unevenly distributed by the mini-agitator, causing the machine to stop and flash the UE light until an operator intervenes. We usually have to remove every item and manually distribute each one evenly around the tub and, even then, it often redistributes them unevenly again. This is the case regardless of the load size. Extremely inefficient for that reason.
A second unpleasant feature is the tendency of the machine to accumulate stale water under the agitator which results in slime growth that is both smelly and unhygienic.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by kr DON'T BUY THIS WASHER!!
I should have listened to the bad reviews!! I thought it was just people who didn't know how to load a washer properly....WRONG it doesn't matter how you load it...it is constantly "UE" uneven! Takes hours to wash one load constantly refills the washer even if you put it on "spin only" it still continuously fills and refills the wash!er with water. The most frustrating piece of junk I've ever purchased in my life. I don't consider it energy efficient when it runs for hours to wash one small load of clothes.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by apeeling Maybe I have a different washer?
I love this washer. I've used it to clean all sorts of things (even cloth diapers!) and they have all come out smelling clean (or rather, smelling like nothing at all). Some tips if you're having issues with clothes coming out dirty or with build up: use powder detergent (I recommend Tide), use the heavy duty or bulky settings (you can turn down the soil level and spin speed if you wish), don't use fabric softener. If you have an extra dirty load, do a rinse cycle. I have had better results with my machine than with any other HE washer I've used at relatives' houses, and almost every front loader I've seen takes 2 hours for a heavy duty load, so 1 hour isn't so bad to me.
I've only gotten the UE error a couple times, and that was when the machine wasn't level. There are little legs that you can raise and lower at the bottom of the machine to help with this. We leveled the machine when we first got it, and then some plumbers came and needed to look at some pipes behind the machine. They moved the machine and that made it so it was uneven, and I started getting those errors... I leveled the machine again and everything has been great since then.
The only change I'd make is I'd like to be able to program the machine to rinse, then do a cycle. I can program it to add a rinse after, but if I want one before, then I need to remember to come back down and start the normal cycle once the rinse is through.
I've only had this machine a year though, seems like everyone else had theirs malfunction after two years.

We're a 65 year old couple who have raised two kids and been through many washers in our day. This machine is BY FAR the best we've ever had. Easy to use. Large capacity. Clear, simple controls. Simply put, it works. (our previous machine was a front loader Whirlpool which was an abject piece of you-know-what).

There is no agitation. The whites are now brown(I purchased this piece of garbage in Feb. of 2014). Towels smell. Nothing comes out clean. I kept thinking it's just my imagination, until I spoke with another owner!
