I've had 2 sets of LG front load washers and dryers at previous houses that got sold with the house. We are now looking for our 3rd set to replace a top load agitator machine that came with our new home.

If we can speak candidly, the issue of mold and mildew is more about maintenance of the unit more than anything else. The ENERGY STAR® Qualified LG 4.3 DOE cu. ft. High-Efficiency Front Load Washer in White, Model # WM3570HWA does have features like the Tub Clean Cycle that you can run once a week for three consecutive weeks if you notice mildew and musty smells, and a Magnetic Door Plunger that enables you to safely and conveniently secure the door slightly ajar to promote air circulation which will help the unit to dry. Depending on the frequency of use, the unit also has an automatic alert for cleaning the unit which will blink "t cl" every 1~2 months to indicate that the tub needs cleaning. However, even with these features to help with the prevention of mildew and musty smells, there is still a lot that you can do to prevent it as well. Obviously, there is a lot of moisture and wetness involved with a washing machine which makes for a perfect breeding ground for mildew producing bacteria which then leads to the musty smells. If you live in an area of hard water, mineral scales can form in the internal components of the washing machine. It is recommended that you use water softener if you live is such an area. Using the wrong type of detergent can also lead to a build up of detergent which ultimately can cause bacterial growth. fabric softener can also build up and cause the same bacterial issues, so it would be beneficial to you to clean the machine after each wash. Bacteria also tends to grow inside the door seal and that also should be cleaned periodically and you'll want to clean the detergent and fabric softener dispenser drawers. Mineral scale can also accumulate in your water inlet hoses so you should look to clean those as well. Improper installation of the washer can also exacerbate mildew and musty smells. If the unit is installed or used in an area of high humidity for a long time, it can lead to detergent residue build up in the machine that can produce mildew and musty smells...^IFV Read Less

Check to make sure that the door gasket is not damaged or twisted out of shape. If is not forming a tight seal, water can leak out down the front and pool under the unit. Check that water is not leaking from the safety air vents on the back of the unit. Residue build up of detergent or fabric softener can cause water to leak out from the safety air vent or from the detergent dispenser draw. Usually when there is a lot of water left in the tub after a wash cycle as you have described, it is due to slow drainage. Check that the drain hose is not kinked or pinched. If you are still unable to find where the water is leaking from, if you have also checked that the hot and cold water inlet hoses are not leaking, you may have to call for a repair service...^IFV Read Less

Mold and mildew can be a problem for washing machines, but especially High-Efficiency washing machines like this 4.3 DOE cu. ft. High-Efficiency Front Load Washer, Model # WM3570HWA, because they use much less water and require special care to prevent conditions that promote bacterial growth. Mold and mildew can be prevented quite easily by following a routine and sticking to it.
Drying the parts that remain damp after each wash cycle like the door gasket and the strainer the soap dispenser, and the interior of the door then leaving the door open to air dry goes a long way to preventing mold and mildew. If you really want to ensure everything dries completely, aim a fan at the open washer door.
You also need to remember that since these High-Efficiency washers use less water, they require special High-Efficiency detergent that dissolves quickly and is less likely to leave soap residue after the wash. Using regular detergent will leave soap residue that will promote the growth of bacteria.
You may also want to run the washer with hot water with no clothes in it and add bleach or white vinegar at least once a month or as needed to clean the washer. There are commercially available cleaning products on the market that you can use too, but just as long as you follow a set routine on a regular basis, those are the steps you will need to follow to prevent the mold and mildew build-ups...IFV
