How does this washer do with REALLY dirty clothes?

My husband works in the field & his jeans get REALLY dusty/dirty. I've heard this may not clean as thoroughly as agitator type washers & front loaders. What is your experience with washing very dirty clothes? Thanks!
Asked by: newbie
You heard right, agitator is better for very dirty clothes but this machine can wash very large loads at one time.

When leaning over the washer to reach items in the bottom of the tub, do the setting buttons inadvertantly get pressed?

Asked by: Anonymous
No. When you open the lid to the washer, the machine is not operational at that point and thus no buttons can be activated. It is, by far, the absolute best washer I have ever used!

Customer Reviews

4.3 cu. ft. High-Efficiency Front Control Top Load Washer in White, ENERGY STAR is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 305.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very Disappointed! I have had this washer for less than a year and it does not work as expected. I bought this after reading the other comments and now wonder if we are talking about the same machine. UE is a constant on this machine. Hours to do a single load. It seems like the software to run the washer is poorly constructed or something, though it does seem to have the same problems every day. It is just not what I wanted in a washing machine. Never will buy LG again. Quality, ease of use, performance all poor in my book. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointing washing machine I am so very disappointed with this washing machine! It can take a whole day to do a load of washing. Yes I did say a whole day! It has a system that balances the load of washing and if the machine's load becomes unbalanced (over which you have no control), the machine shows UE (Uneven load) on the control panel. It constantly refills itself up with water to try and balance the load - I am glad I am not on a water meter as I would have been contacting LG for a rebate on my water bill! If I had enough money to replace this machine I would put it out on the curb for scrap metal. The reason I gave it 2 stars instead of just one is that it does have a huge tub, which is useful and can fit a comforter in it. Very disappointed in this product LG - not your quality standard at all! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Can't dye clothes I washed whites with a hidden red piece of clothing. To take out the pink, I needed to fill the washer halfway with hot water, pour in the Rit dye remover and add clothes. It wouldn't fill without clothes and wouldn't run with the lid open. You can't do anything other than wash clothes. Disappointing. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from SUPER WASHER AND DRYER SET I have been in the market for a new washer/dryer set for a long time. This washer is a dream purchase. I got a great deal, it a beauty, and our clothes and especially towels have never smelled so fresh and clean. The performance is so much better than my old washer it is not fair to compare the two. The capacity is awesome and there is no agitator to get clothes wrapped around. I really love this washer and only wish it came with a step stool for us vertically challenged people because it is difficult to reach down into the abyss to get the last small items out...but I would not sacrifice the capacity for that one shortcoming...pun intended!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very Displeased With This Washer I have been experiencing some issues with this top load washer, specifically during the spin cycle. The washer has detected an out of balance load on ALL of my laundry washes. This seems to only happen during the spin cycle, prompting it to redistribute water to try and balance the load. My problem is it dosn't just do this once, it will continuously do this during a wash load until its right, wasting way too much water. This past month my water bill went sky high. I've sat in front of my washer during a session, just to see what it does, the spin cycle lasted about an hour(maybe more) because of the uE error; total time was about two hours! During this I also saw my washer display 29 minutes remaining then suddenly jump down to 22 and show the uE symbol and add water and jump up and down between numbers over and over. I've watched videos on how to load the washer and tried to wash like items together, to no avail. I've had this washer for almost a year now and I agree the first couple months were great, but its just gotten worse.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from The Unbalance Feature Wastes SO Much Water--YIKES! This machine has a MAJOR downside to it. I've owned both the washer and dryer set for a year now and I've noticed that more often than not, the washer becomes unbalanced and must refill the drum with another full load of water to correct itself. Because of its auto "balance recovery" design, the machine will not alert you of an unbalance but will automatically refill its drum with fresh water, agitate the clothing, then spin empty again to try to correct it. The machine will continually do this over and over until it feels that the clothes have become re-balanced, which results in a serious, SERIOUS waste of water!! I will balance the clothes equally upon initial loading, but because there is no center agitator to keep them somewhat in place during the wash cycle, they jumble together and then fall randomly as the drum spins empty--RESULTING IN THE UNBALANCE! It's so frustrating!!! More often than not, I'll expect the load to finish in the "Quick Wash" 35 minute time frame, but when I go downstairs to check, I often discover that the machine has shut down mid-wash because it was unable to correct its own unbalance. Then I have to restart my wash, which causes WAY more water use and WAY more time! What is supposed to be a quick, 35 minute efficient wash ends up taking over an hour (sometimes two!!) depending on how many times the stupid machine messes up. I hate this washer! These new ones look so fancy and efficient but it's not until you've stopped using your old one that you realize how poorly the new designs are. I miss my center agitator, and I wish I had never bought this washer! The dryer, though, is wonderful.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Bad balance I loved this machine when I first got it. Now it is constantly having balance issues. I do live alone and sometimes do not have a "large" load of laundry, but it should perform just as well with a smaller load. It has even occasionally had bad balance with a full load of towels. I don't understand it!!!! I talked my parents into getting one and they have the same problem. They hate it! I have even stopped the machine and ring clothes out myself just because it will continue to show bad balance. What can I do to correct this? I can't imagine other people do not have this issue.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Looks good, cleans great I've had this washer for over a month now and absolutely LOVE it! I was hesitant to purchase after reading some of the negative reviews, but I'm glad I went ahead with it. I love the clean lines and the front control more stretching and reaching for a dial or button to set the cycle. It cleans so much better than my old agitator model. I have hard wood floors in this new house and was amazed by how dirty my socks get. I put them in this baby and they came out white. No bleach. Just detergent. And WHITE. Truly amazing. My more delicate items come out unscathed and no more getting the straps of my tank tops wrapped around a stupid agitator. The drum is HUGE. I sometimes feel guilty for having such a small load...but then I realize it's not that just looks that way in the enormous tub. I like that it senses the size of the load and adjusts the water accordingly. It's super quiet when it runs, which is great, because I don't currently have a door on my laundry room. I think the people who complain about it not cleaning well or leaving residue aren't following the instructions. You only use 2 tablespoons of detergent. Yes, TABLESPOONS. If you're like me, you might be used to dumping in half a capfull or more. Not with this machine. Read and follow the directions and I really think you'll be amazed at the performance of this machine. The only slightly negative point I have is the drum is very deep. So if you're short, like I am (5'4"), you may need a step stool to get to the bottom of the drum. I don't need it every time, but if I do a load of smaller items, like socks and underwear, I definitely need some assistance reaching the bottom. But its still completely worth it to me. I love the washer and wouldn't trade it for anything. And it's not LG's fault I'm short, so I didn't take away any stars for that. I chose to get the large capacity size for my blankets and comforters.
