Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Mike Terrific unit but...
Very quiet and effective. Two minor complaints:
1. The louvres cannot be adjusted to blow "up", rather, they only blow straight across the room, or down. My sleeve is below window level so it's blowing right on my bed. It can be adjusted right to left, just not up.
2. My sleeve was 27" wide. I called LG and they said the unit cannot be used with that size sleeve. I bought it anyway and the manual actually has perfect directions for my size sleeve and others! It's even got a nice "trim kit", which is a frame that fits around the unit so it looks built in.

This unit is not for a bedroom, if you got a quite one you got lucky. When the compressor starts this unit is a disaster. I would not recommend you take the chance. I should have taken it back. Now after over a year of noise I will remove it and probably throw it away. Just another loss. I originally had a quite Montgomery Wards 5,000btu that the circuit board went out on twice the second time after 15 years. I bought around a 22,000 btu for the garage, again an LG and it is way more quite that the 8,000.

Very impressed with this air conditioner. Operates very quietly as ours is directly above the TV. We can hear the TV without even increasing volume. We have a 350 sq. ft. room, and this Air Conditioner keeps up with the demand without even being on the High Setting. Looking forward to the savings, as we can now leave our Central AC off, and use this unit in the room that we spend the majority of our time.

I can't believe this is so well reviewed. It is a very loud machine, so loud we can't sleep with it on.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Kevin Sleeve Not Included; Internal Fan Missing Screws, OK in the End
We have 2 other LG window ACs which is why we felt comfortable buying this one. With awning windows in this room we had to have an "in wall" type unit. Didn't realize until after purchased that no sleeve is included to mount it. Really? Who buys an in wall AC and doesn't use a sleeve - that's the whole idea. Home Depot - PLEASE MAKE THIS MORE OBVIOUS IN THE DESCRIPTION. Being relatively handy we mounted it without the sleeve and that part turned out fine. So when I was about to finalize the install my wife says "why don't you turn it on to make sure it works properly" I'm thinking whatever, this is a brand new unit. So to appease her I crank it up...clunk, clunk, clunk. Yikes, she was right to check. I'm all in at this point and am determined to have air in this bed room for the 4th. So I open up the unit and it is missing 2 top mounting screws for the fan motor - wow. It was loose and that is why the fan blades were making contact inside the unit. Once I put 2 screws in it works fine. I think it is a fluke and would buy LG again. Humans make these and errors do happen.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Hohum Okay for a Through-the-Wall Air Conditioner
I would have expected 8,000 BTUs to cool our small room (11'x15') much faster but eventually this a/c gets there. The thermostat seems a bit off; must set very low too feel any cool air and fan speeds don't seem all that different.

I ordered the sleeve and installed the unit myself. It cools the room quickly and is relatively quiet. I like the vent so you can pull in outside air when the outside has cooled. down.

This air conditioner was easy to install as a wall unit. It has quiet operation and the remote is a nice feature. This product was a very good value for the price.
