Ignore all bad reviews this is a great product that does the job.
First things first this cools a space way larger that what it is rated for, makes me wonder how accurate those suggestions are. The install was easy and quick for me anyways and the unit is quiet, so quiet that at low I had to check that it was running. On high the noise level is also very acceptable.
I could not be happier after just 3 days owning this product, love the timer feature and the energy saver that clicks off the fan when the desired room temperature is reached, then the unit turns the fan on about every three minutes to check to see if the compressor needs to start cooling again.
If you are going out and do not wish to leave it running, then set the times to come on at a desired time so you come home to a cool place.
I would say this is one of the best choices for a window a/c. Goodbye sleepless nights. :)

Rated 5 out of 5Â by Uriel3766 Awesome, Quiet, In Store, and HAS a Drain Hole!!
LG is the only manufacturer that produces a(n) air conditioner that comes with its own drain hole. Why the others do not is beyond me. Living in Central Texas where the heat and humidity can be 105F and a humidity of 98+ percent, to not have a drain hole pre-made is asking for troubles!! Had a Kenmore window A/C that this new LG has replaced. The corrosion where a drain should have been made its own. Needless to say, the Kenmore ate itself. Literally.
Now, as for the "noise". I have measured the decibels on my unit. I have as yet to figure out how anyone can get any readings above 45-decibels. Mine runs on high, at 74F, energy saving mode, and it's UNDER 45-decibels. Not sure what framework others have, though mine is aluminum. The unit IS quiet!! I mean like Q-U-I-E-T for a window unit!!
Cooling down a room in a hurry is NOT a(n) issue either!! OMG!! After installing, caulking the edges, and turning it on, it took a room of 14 by 20-feet down from 98F to 78F in 10-minutes. 10 MINUTES!! 20-degrees cooler in 10-minutes!! Not sure if that is a record or not, but I've had window A/C's darn near my entire life, and I've never had one cool a room so quickly before!!
While there are other places online that have and carry this unit, I found that only Home Depot has this A/C IN STOCK!! Being someone that shops online first, looks over all the information, reads the comments of others about a product before getting it, compares, then goes out (maybe) to get something, waiting 3 to 5-business days for a air conditioner isn't something I recommend, especially in heat and or humid conditions!! While Home Depot may not be the cheapest, it IS the fastest, most efficient, and best "if it doesn't work today I can return it and have it replaced today" value!! While my A/C had NO defects, faults, and runs perfectly straight out of the box, I am sure that someone, somewhere, and at some point in time MIGHT. Given the return policies of "other places", not to mention the hassle of dealing with them from a purchase online, let me say this.......For the dollar or two saved from Online Shopping, it's far far better to find this A/C at your local Home Depot, and not have to deal with the hassles of others!!
Though the product says 15-Amps, it only takes 6.9 Amps!!!! So just plug-in the wall socket like anything else. It doesn't pull 15-Amps.
For the quality, value, finding this unit in store and in stock, AND for a unit that HAS a drain hole, THANK YOU HOME DEPOT!!!! Two thumbs up from a room filled (literally) with electronics!! I don't need a heater in the winter with the electronics I have that run non-stop. VERY Satisfied!!

Rated 5 out of 5Â by Woodduck Rather quiet, and good cooling
This is the first Air conditioner I have owned, so I can only compare it to those others I have encountered elsewhere, But I am well pleased with this machine. It seems to be as quiet as one could expect an air conditioner to be, being hardly much louder than a small fan when on low, and a while noticeable when on high, still not offensive. It cools very well, doing a most admirable job with my small house, which with it's open floor plan comes to larger than this AC is rated for, and yet still makes walking inside on a hot day like entering an oasis. Just make sure you follow the installation instructions and read how to preform the needed maintenance of the filter, etc. And you should find this a great product.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by DesertDweller COOL AND QUIET
I live in the Southern California upper desert. I have a two room small house. It gets blazing hot here in the summer. I have tried swamp coolers for eight years and and sick and tired of changing the filters every year, dealing with the stinky water, and sealing the thing up for the winter. And not to mention the noise and blowing junk everywhere. A few weeks it is humid and swamp coolers just turn your house into a sweat lodge. The 6000 unit may have worked but I did not take a chance and got the 8000. First off, it is not noisy. Running on low fan on energy saver is a dream compared to what I am use to. I have a small fan to help move the cool air to the next room. I don't expect to keep the place 70 degrees. 79 or 80 will be fine. I don't care if my bill doubles for three months either. The clean, cool, air is worth it. I will report back when we get into 115 degree weather and see what the utility bill does.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by 78SeeYa Bought this to help out, central air
We own a brick home which maintains the heat, and we have had over 90 degree weather with thick humidity lately.
Our central air is working over time trying to keep the house cool.
But with anyone that has kids, knows, the doors keep opening and closing, which in turns brings in more hot air.
This unit is in our living room area and it works GREAT! Cools down the house in less then an hour. Very impressed with this unit, because it apparently is used for small areas. Well, this unit cools over 1200 sq feet with all interior doors closed and ceiling fans running. Hoping this will give our central air a little break and a break in the high electrical bills!
