Answer:
The LG 8,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner and Dehumidifier Function with Remote Control, Model # LP0814WNR does not need to have water put in it to cool it off. The unit works by pulling in air from its' surroundings through the vents on the sides of the unit to cool the unit which is why it is imperative to allow at least 20 inches of air space on all sides of the unit for good air circulation...^IFV

Thus the water as it is condensed out of the air needs to go somewhere. This unit has two ways to get rid of water. 1) if toy connect a garden hose to the water out connection, the condensed water will flow through the hose to whenever you have it running to - either a drain, or a bucket. I suggest you have the hose run to a drain or outside. 2) if the garden hose is not connected and you have that hole plugged, the water will get re-combined with the hotter exhaust air (Condensate) and will go through the exhaust hose to the outside, where it will meet with the colder outside air and turn back into water outside. Rated 3.6 out of 5 by 597 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Terrible I bought these units to make it easier on my wife and I to get them set up. We used to cool the entire house with one 10k btu window unit upstairs and one 5k btu window unit downstairs, but getting them in and out of the windows was a pain. I purchased the two 8k btu units thinking they would be able to do the same job. They do not. They can barely keep one 10x11 room below 75 degrees, let alone the entire floor. They are noisier than the old window units, and the vent tubes keep coming disconnected from the window inserts. If I still had the boxes, I would return them. June 20, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Portable Noise-Maker I purchased this unit to cool a small garage shop space. Blows moderately cool air, but, after an hour of running continuously, there was no change in the temperature. Frankly, I didn't expect there would be any change, given the temperature of air coming out of the unit. The outtake hose is flimsy and comes apart. The attachment "hook" for the hose is cheap plastic. Be careful - it is ready to break off on moment's notice. I love shopping at Home Depot, but this was the worst purchase ever. I don't have a need for use of this unit indoors, but if its indoor performance is as bad as its garage performance, then be prepared for an exercise in hauling home a hefty box, only to haul said hefty box back to Home Depot. Very disappointed. June 20, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best buy ever!!! Just purchased the portable AC unit. I wish there was the option for more than five stars. This is amazing. I am not mechanically inclined at all, managed to set it up on my own in less than 15 min. The room is already cool. No longer a puddle of sweat!! Love it might get one for the other room. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Waste of Time First one was opened and missing items . Returned . Strike one . Second one never opened . Set it up and it cooled for Three minutes and then heard a shhhhhh sound . Freon leaking out . Stopped cooling . Strike two . No strike three . Returned for a refund . June 16, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good product. Maybe a little louder than expected, but not unbearable Assembly was a breeze with easy-to-follow instructions, and the unit does a good job blowing cold air quickly. It is a little bit louder than the traditional window unit, but it's white noise so it's easy enough to adapt (for sleeping). June 22, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Amazing!!! Little but packs a cold punch. Easy to install, love the remote control features, and is a nice size that fits good. Highly recommend. June 20, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by A Good Affordable A/C Option I live in a one-bedroom apartment, just shy of 500 square feet. It consists of a large living room with an attached galley kitchen and a short hallway that leads to a small bathroom and medium size bedroom. I purchased this unit to cool the bedroom as the 6,050 BTU window unit I've been running in the living room continuously, just wasn't cooling the bedroom at all. With temps reaching over 100℉ this week, I bit the bullet and decided to go with a portable unit for the bedroom. The unit has a strong fan with both a low and high setting that circulates air better than I expected for a lower-end model. It's not the quietest unit in the world, but as long as it lowers the ambient temperature, beggars can't be choosers, right? My only major complaint about this unit is the vent hose design. The flexible vent hose easily pops out of the mounting ring used to affix the vent hose to the rear of the unit and putting it back together is extremely cumbersome. Cheap materials don't help this situation. However once you get everything set up properly, it does a good job. It's not quite as powerful as it would have you believe, and part of me wishes I had opted for the 10,000 BTU unit, but the loss is negligible and for the price I definitely got more than what I paid for. So really, I don't have much room to complain. June 22, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by LG 8,000BTU Portable Air Conditioner It does its job. I cant get it to cool a 250 sq. ft. room below 72F. The dehumidify feature does work nicely, and for myself, it has not needed to be drained of water after 2 weeks. If you need to use in windows over 3 feet in width/height it did not come with enough screws to secure all of the mounting plates together (only came with 1 screw for this). I only needed the 1, but others will need more. I also found that the hose mount to the window was not designed all that well. They supply self-tapping screws for the hose bracket onto mounting plate that did not tap well, and should have been pre-drilled. I used a drill after messing with it for 10 minutes and it worked well. I also did not think it was sealed well between this bracket to mounting plate, so I used duct tape to seal this. June 4, 2016
