i bought this portable AC unit because we needed one for our bedroom and our windows have gates on them so a window unit required a box being welded into the window bars. i thought this would be much easier to do. installation was fairly easy. the AC however is very loud and not very powerful. we have a small 20x12 room and it just gets it to a comfortable temp but def not cold or cool. I have decided to return this unit and buy a window unit instead. with the money a window unit will save me, i will pay someone to construct an opening in our window bars for it. the loudness i just cant deal with. i could deal with the subpar cooling as its only an 8k btu but the noise level is just too much for me.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Pink This unit is horrible and does not do what it says it will
If I could give this unit a no star rating I would. I have it placed in a 9 x 9 room and it has been on for hours but the room is still uncomfortable. The thermostat on the unit says the room temp is 88 degrees which is pretty much where it was at when I turned the unit on nine hours ago. Not worth the money or the time wasted installing it. It will be going back to Home Depot today. I only purchased it as my slider windows opening to about 16 inches wide and finding a window unit that will fit such a small opening is time consuming and costly. Lesson learned. Sorry LG but your cooling estimate is way off on this one.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Mari NO courtesy service from LG
I got this air conditioner few months ago, water leaks from the bottom and the Water Full
warning lamp never comes on. I submitted for the warranty service on LG web twice, it said they would contact me but they had not, so I called them and talked their customer service, then they said that the local servicing company would contact you to pick up the air conditioner to be fixed....... still no-one has contacted me. I have been waiting for almost two months since the first warranty claim. It's so tiring to keep calling them.
Also the air conditioner itself is very noisy and not powerful.

Good side: it does a good job cooling a room well within the recommended dimensions.
Bad side: no economy mode - unlike the higher BTU and barely more expensive version this one has no option to save energy once temp is reached. Operating manual is hilariously inacurrate. The AC shows the room temp instead of the set temp. Manual horizontal adjustment may well break before actually moving. Like most portable ACs the exhaust vent radiates about as much heat back into the room as the AC removes.
I really wish I could find an AC made anywhere but China.

We got it installed in a small computer room but moved it since it's supposed to be out too far for this room to accommodate it. Moved it to another room and had to buy new tape to go around it because the original tape is stuck so hard we cannot get it off the first window. In addition the unit sounds like a gavel coming down, clanking when the compressor clicks on or off. Can't sleep with that kind of intense sound. I want to take it back and get a window a. c. instead. This is not so portable anyway. It's hard to move.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by ynf62 Great product for our RV
After a lot of research, we decided to purchase this LG portable A/C as a backup to our roof A/C in our fifth wheel trailer that we are living in. We are in Phoenix, AZ area for all summer and have already had a week of extreme heat (115-120). We are very happy with this A/C as a backup. Staying cool inside all day and night long. Waiting for monsoon season to see how it works on "dry" to take moisture out of the air. Filters are easy to clean also. Only problem we had was the venting panel really doesn't fit any of our windows, so we used thick styrofoam to put in the gaps. New idea...portable A/C made for RV's.

About the exhaust hose connection coming loose: It locks in place to the unit by turning the hose COUNTER-CLOCKWISE, not clockwise. Once you do that, duct tape is not necessary. ALL mobil A/C units require venting through a window. It cools down my 10x12 ft. bedroom from 86 to 75 in about 45 mins. Love the remote control which sits on night stand & make temp adjustments or shut it off around 3 am. With a mobil unit, you can take it from room to room. It does require a window to exhaust the hot air generated. It's are more economical to run than bulky window units that stick out of your window and may require brackets for support. I have a horizontal-closing window and plastic bracket included only takes up about 5 in. top to bottom. Installed with tape included and it does not rattle! When warm weather season ends, this unit will be stored in my closet, which will make the room more energy efficient in the winter with no cold air leaking through a window unit.

Contacted support, the no-reply email had me try different things but the unit is still bad. Now I have to call for RMA I guess or more tips to try! yay.
