The reviews that others posted were very helpful, so I figured I should help the next person.
This is a good unit for the price (and free shipping). It cooled my [13x8] room almost immediately. Most of the posts that made me hesitant about buying this air conditioner were complaints about the unit being too loud. Well take it from an everyday guy like myself: this A/C unit is no louder than any other window unit that I've ever used. Not sure what those people were expecting, but it's still an air conditioner people! One gripe that I did have was that the duct is flimsy, but if you're careful it should be fine.

I purchased this unit for my sons room. I wanted something that would cool his room. We have central air but it doesn't reach the top floor. So his room is always hot. This unit cools the room great. We usually put it on a half hour before bed and set the timer for a few hours and he sleeps comfortably. The best part is it js so small it doesn't take up much space in his room. I also purchased the 10k btu for my bedroom.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by jlawmi tip for those purchasing the unit
Initially I had thought there was an issue with the unit in that the compressor wouldn't run even when the set temperature was not being reached. This was caused because of a blockage in the exhaust vent tube that I didn't notice when installing. Hope this helps someone thinking the product is broken. Make sure the vent tube is free of all packing materials or the compressor will not run.
As far as noise- this is much quieter then the 2 or 3 window units I've purchased in the last 3-5 years. Most of the noise is from the fan, and the compressor, although noticeable when it cycles, does not produce a lot of low frequency noise, which i find to be the most disruptive. Wish it had continuously variable fan speeds instead of only high and low.

I live in a condo community that doesn't allow window A/C units. So, when my central HVAC died, and I couldn't spend thousands to replace it, a portable unit was my only alternative to survive the hot, humid, North Carolina summer. I compared this one with a comparable unit at Lowe's, but I chose this one because of slightly nicer aesthetics, higher dehumidifying capacity, and the strength of the LG brand versus one I'd never heard of before. I'm a guy who lifts weights regularly, so getting this home and out of the box alone was not a problem. Otherwise, I'd recommend having a helper. Once out of the box, set-up and control is very easy. It's quite able to keep my 11x16 living room at 72 degrees, even with the outside temperature above 90. The living room communicates with the dining room, kitchen, and hallway to the bathroom and bedrooms via an open arch. By shutting the bedroom doors and placing a fan near the arch to circulate the air, I can keep the dining room, kitchen, and bathroom at a tolerable 74/75 degrees. This unit does make some noise, especially with the fan speed set on high and the compressor running, but I expected this. After using the high fan speed to cool an initially high room temperature, the low fan speed seems able to maintain it. At this setting, the noise doesn't seem any worse than window A/Cs I've been around in the past. For me, the extra sound is well worth the effectiveness of this unit. Also, I've been running this for three days and have not yet had any indication that the water tank is full.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Borlinstein Must Read: Why You Need This Unit
Purchased this from HD earlier this week, wanted to wait a few days before writing this review.
So here's the deal:
This unit works. Period. It kicks out nice, cool air. Installation was a breeze. The instructions are pretty straight forward, and if you don't understand them you lack common sense. There is even a video tutorial on how to install this device on LG's website.
It's very user friendly, and not all that loud when running in "low" mode. When then fan is set to high, it kicks out noise. Not bad enough to make you not want this though. I'm a realist and believe you totally get what you pay for. Keeping in mind that this device is an Air Conditioner, the noise it makes does not bother me. It does exactly what it's supposed to do.
Once everything was set up, and the unit was turned on, The temperature in the room went from 86 degrees to 77 in about 20 minutes or so. This was in a 100 sqft room.
I was going to pay thousands to get this room set up so that we could get proper air flow. I decided to try this before I did that, and I'm super glad I did. I'm very happy with it.
I can't give this 5 stars cause I have no idea what else I would be comparing it to. I don't know if it's the Ferrari of portable air conditioner units or a ford. Regardless, it does exactly what I needed it to. One thing I think I should note is the duct tube gets a little hot when the device is running. That's because it's kicking out all the hot air that's in the room.

10 min to assembly. I have the mother n law floor plan and i keep it in the front close to my bedroom and it keeps the house cold and the other 2 bedrooms cool.. Great product to by if your AC goes out and its cheaper than buying a new unit or compressor if you are running low on cash.

I cannot say enough good things about this air conditioner. I lived in an apartment... in Phoenix... in the summer and the air kept going out. It would often take them days to get around to fixing the a/c so I had to buy one of these as I basically live in my computer room (AZ heat combined with computer heat = unlivable) as it reached about 98 degrees in my computer room. I went out and bought this immediately. In the box it was extremely heavy and I had to have someone help me load it into my car because I couldn't lift it. However, I did manage to get it out of my car and drag it into my apartment by myself. It was easy to set up. I set this puppy on 75 and it cooled the room off in no-time. It is an amazing machine! It's easy to transfer between windows as well. I would move it from the computer room during the day to my bedroom at night. Surprisingly, I've never had to empty the water even though I have it running almost 24/7. Could be that I live in Phoenix where there is no humidity in the air. I really like the fan on it as well. It is a little loud, but if you're like me and the white noise of a fan puts you to sleep, this is perfect.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by BigBird Great - just empty the exhaust duct...
It's a solid unit, cools as expected for the price. Agree with the loudness concerns but once again, for the price... Ensure you empty the hose when installing, the weather stripping gets stuck in there (from the box) backs up the exhaust and overheats the compressor. I thought I had a lemon until I read the review from the guy before me who left the same tip. So I checked the hose and sure enough...Yep, happened to me, too. Save yourself the trouble and dump the hose before installing. Other than that little hiccup, works like a champ.
