Answer:
there are only 3 fan speeds, F1, F2 & F3.
I personally find even the lowest speed, F1 to be a little noisy for me.

However, when you need fresh air in the room, that lever can be set in the OPEN position (i.e. pulled out) to open the damper which allows the room air to be drawn out. The reason you keep the louvers on a window air conditioner unobstructed is because there has to be a natural airflow around the unit that it can draw air from to cool and is the reason why window air conditioners must be exposed to the outside of the structure they are installed in...^IFV Read Less

Rated 4.4 out of 5 by 31 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Cold, strong but... LOUD! Blows cold air out hard if you don't mind how loud it is. July 10, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by GE and Kenmore models are MUCH better I ordered two of these units in March as part of a large online order. I bought a 8,000 BTU and 5,000 BTU unit. We have an older home with no central AC so we have 8 units total in our house- all 4 bedrooms and dining, kitchen, living, and family rooms. These were to replace two older Kenmore models we bought through Sears. Well, the weather turned out much cooler in the spring than anticipated so we did not install these until the end of May. By the time we installed and decided they were not any good, we were beyond the 90 day return policy window. They just do not compare to our Kenmore and GE units we have. They do not cool as quickly or effectively for similar BTU models. It was a huge waste of money for us. Never LG ever again. The smaller unit is also making some kind of rattling noise intermittently and we have only been using it for one moth. June 27, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great AC I bought this air conditioner from Home Depot in June 2013. I live in a very hot and arid area of the country. Consequently, I have been running it 24/7 year round since making my purchase (a medical condition requires that I maintain a VERY cool environment at all times). It has always done a great job of keeping my apartment briskly chilly! It has been very durable and only recently started complaining in any way (it started "chirping a couple of weeks ago likely indicating that the fan bearings need to be lubricated). Under "normal" usage, this great little air conditioner should last the average buyer many, many years. Besides being a great bargain for the money, it is also Energy Star compliant! November 8, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Quiet, works well. This was the largest AC unit that would fit our window, so I was not expecting much: small window, large room. But it does a pretty good job and is very quiet, although I may be a poor judge of noise as we always used a fan to cover traffic noise when we lived in the city. We have not used the remote much so cannot judge how well it works, but it seems to be fine. At 63 pounds this is not a light-weight and I'm not all that strong, so I needed to hire someone to help me unload and install the unit. July 15, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by PLEASED! Purchased this unit yesterday. Installed in 15 minutes with no problems. Cools extremely well. For $$$, the features of this unit are fantastic. We have a 4 bedroom house, and the end of the house with my kids bedrooms stays a little warmer than the rest of the house because the sun stays and sets on that end of the house. Put this unit in the warmest room and it cools that whole end of the house. The cool air even makes it into the living room. Noise level; it could be less but it's not too bad. So far, very pleased with this unit and definitely recommend. I did a lot of online research prior to purchasing, and feel like I made the right choice. June 12, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Lg ac window unit Little under powered but good unit for the price. July 21, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great product i love this a/c, it works great and cools my room just right June 6, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Better than the others! I replaced a 6500 btu unit of another brand which failed after 3 years with this 8000 btu from LG. The difference was night and day. The LG was naturally cooler, being higher capacity. The sound level was lower and there was no vibration produced by the unit. The main pet peave that I have with these cheaper lines of ac's is that the cooling vents are too open and don't have slanted fins to direct debris away from the inside of the ac. Twigs, leaves, bugs and dirty rain water can enter the inside of the unit causing damage, deterioration and inefficiency. I wrap fiberglass window screening around the exterior of the unit to keep this stuff out. It does not impede air flow and is worth the few dollars for the supplies. LG has smaller fins which helps in the long run. I highly recommend this ac to everyone! June 12, 2013
