Well, that's going to vary from person to person. But yeah, it is loud. I think it's easier to fall asleep when it's too loud than when it's too hot. And if you turn it off when you go to bed, at least you'll have some heat relief for a while, long enough to fall asleep.

Answer:
When it switches from fan to cooling, it does make a sound, but overall, it's like "white noise" once you get used to it. This unit is so efficient, though, that I was getting chilled at night -- what I do now is set the temp to 78 and Cool mode, and aim the blower at the opposite wall from me. That keeps the room cool without chilling me directly!

no, it is quiet enough that it will lull you to sleep...it's not noiseless, but it's not bad and it does cool the room off quick...

Hello Emily,
this unit has a Decibel Rating of 55 dBA. Most current AC units are around 55 dBA, give of take a few decibels. Some people are very sensitive to sound and may be awaken by only 40 dB.
Thank you for your question, have a nice day!

Answer:
There are two filters. You access them by sliding them out, pulling on the handhold on the side of the unit. There is a diagram on the instructions that shows you how to do this. I clean mine by rinsing them off in the kitchen sink.

Answer:
There is an air filter on the lower back side of the unit -- the manual (p. 20) says to lift the filter cover up and out, then take out the filter itself. Mine, though, has a filter that easily slides out sideways -- no need to take a cover off or detach the hose. (Model LP0910WNR). Just rinse in warm water with neutral detergent, rinse and let dry out of the sun.

Answer:
Hi Bob , yes there is a filter on this unit. It is recommended to clean the filter every two weeks. You take off the air filter cover upwards.
Clean by washing in warm water and dry in the shade. If you scroll down on the left side of the product web page you will see the use and care manual. Go to page 19, you will see the illustration.

Answer:
There is a one year warranty on the Air Conditioners, plus you can purchase an extended warranty with the A/C for a small price and extend your warranty to Three years.
Do be careful to read all the small print on the warranty though, make sure of what you are doing, don't give them an opportunity to deny your warranty and bill you.

Why cant you use the window installation kit in an horizontal window?

My home was broken into and I dont feel comfortable with replacing my old fashion air conditioners back into the windows being as though thats how they got in. I was about to purchase this LG 12,000 btu model for the summer and install it in my horizontal windows, because they are higher up and smaller than my standard Rancher home windows. I have Astma and need air since heat is the number one trigger of my Astma. What can I do, or does LG have an appliance that I can install horizontally?

Answer:
I just bought this unit and you can install the hose either horizontally or vertically into a window. I have sash windows, so to keep the window secure I just screwed a screw into the two wooden window panels and will remove screw and close the window in the winter. LG also provided a metal L to install to keep the window secure.

There are ones available that mount to the frame of the window, with a small device mounted to the window. In the event of someone trying to gain access they will have to open the window up further breaking the magnetic connection between the two devices mounted there, and setting off the alarm.
Along with the alarm I would recommend putting in a piece of wood cut to the correct length so it can be mounted in the window preventing the window from being opened at all beyond what is needed to accommodate the air conditioners exhaust. In this way you both stop access, and are alerted to any attempt to gain access.

Also there are several pieces for the window kit so you can make it fit a space from about 2 feet to about 6 feet. The hose itself is only 6 inches wide so really a 6 inch hole in the wall is the minimum you would need, and you could put a dryer vent cover over the outside of the hole. Also the hose flattens at the end, and the window kit only requires a 4-1/2 inch opening in the window, so once it's in place you can put some screws into the window frame so it can't be opened from the outside. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by WHERE do I start? . . . or . . . WHEN will IT start? So . . . . if it's man-made, will it fail at some point? Yep. I purchased it summer of 2014; worked fine for a month --- then it would intermittently power off COMPLETELY. By that, I mean DEAD: no lights, no sounds, no nothin'. Thinking that accumulated condensation might be the problem, I checked the drain pan --- nope. I read the manual. No help there. A couple of hours later, just for grins, I tripped and reset the unit's power plug/breaker: lights ON! It's ALIVE! Worked for a couple of days, then it reverted to the same problem. Tried to obtain LG service at my location. LG site response was: "We're sorry! We do not show service in your area at this time." Perfect. So I settled in to the cycle of letting it cool down, then tripping and resetting the unit's power plug/breaker. That worked for several cycles since 2014 . . . until yesterday, when this unit choked out it's last breath of cold air. NO MORE LG PRODUCTS FOR ME September 11, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Never buy LG I bought an air conditioner that was missing a remote they did not replace it September 7, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best One I Tried We live in a little one bedroom apartment in Orange County, CA. This was my third attempt at an air conditioner and I must say, it really has been the best one I tried. Our first one was a different model. It constantly needed to be emptied as if it was on the dehumidifier setting 24/7. I was rolling it outside to empty multiple times a day. We got tired of that, so we went with a small window unit, but again we were disappointed. I had friends that had great portable units, so I knew there were good ones out there. I can say confidently that this LG model is one such model. July 25, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Four Years Strong i initially bought this because it was too pricey to run central air in our small apartment. it's been with me now through 3 different moves in the 4 years i've had it and still works wonderfully. easy to use, more economical than central air, and holds up very nice over the years. it is rather heavy, so be careful hauling up and down stairs. August 14, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Happy , but looking for a parts list Have been very happy until recently, the exhaust hose has a split in it and I am not able to find a part number for it or where I can find one. Can you possibly let me know how to find one? I tried one place on line and they didn't seem to be able to help me. August 10, 2016

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Garbage. Don't last. I've bought 2 in the last couple years. Both stopped blowing cold air within 2 years of purchase. LG service just wanted me to pay to have them repaired. It should be labeled a disposable air conditioner. Hoping some of the other brands are better. July 23, 2016
