Customer Questions & Answers

If i set the air conditioner in a bedroom, the noice would effect my sleep?

Asked by: Anonymous
Well, that's going to vary from person to person. But yeah, it is loud. I think it's easier to fall asleep when it's too loud than when it's too hot. And if you turn it off when you go to bed, at least you'll have some heat relief for a while, long enough to fall asleep.

is there a filter on this unit and if so how do you clean it

Asked by: Anonymous
There are two filters. You access them by sliding them out, pulling on the handhold on the side of the unit. There is a diagram on the instructions that shows you how to do this. I clean mine by rinsing them off in the kitchen sink.

Why cant you use the window installation kit in an horizontal window?

My home was broken into and I dont feel comfortable with replacing my old fashion air conditioners back into the windows being as though thats how they got in. I was about to purchase this LG 12,000 btu model for the summer and install it in my horizontal windows, because they are higher up and smaller than my standard Rancher home windows. I have Astma and need air since heat is the number one trigger of my Astma. What can I do, or does LG have an appliance that I can install horizontally?
Asked by: Anonymous
I just bought this unit and you can install the hose either horizontally or vertically into a window. I have sash windows, so to keep the window secure I just screwed a screw into the two wooden window panels and will remove screw and close the window in the winter. LG also provided a metal L to install to keep the window secure.

9,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner (72 pt./Day) and Remote Control is rated 3.4 out of 5 by 586.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from I'm very pleased with the air conditioner I purchased my unit five or six years ago; I haven't used it much but when I do it works fine. I empty the water every now and then works like a champ. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far, so good. I bought this portable A/C for my extra garage/workshop as it is too hot to work in there during Florida summers. I cut a vent hole through the block wall and installed a Home Depot dryer vent outside. Works perfectly in 80 degree weather so I am optimistic about the summer. If I ever lose power because of a hurricane, I will relocate it to the master bedroom, vent it out a window (window vent kit comes with it) and run it off a generator. Controls are simple - just like any window-type air conditioner. Appears to be solidly built. I own several LG appliances and they all are superior to the new GE units that came with my new home.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for what it is suppose to do! I typically don't write reviews, but check them on every big purchase. Okay, for you folks like me who read reviews and see a bunch of negative reviews...ignore them. So long as you understand what this is suppose to do. It will not cool an upstairs family room down to 65 degrees, but it will take my home office (standard bedroom) down to 72 when it is 102 outside (Texas). I move it easily from my office to the kids room at night to keep him comfy and cool. Also, back to my upstairs family room, it does get it down to about 74 degrees with the curtains closed during the day. People complain about the sound, but it isn't that bad. After all, it has to blow the air out, so there has to be some sound and if you want volume, then you need more sound. Bottom line, it works great and I am very pleased with this purchase and would recommend it to you.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This unit works and lasts I've had this unit for at least 3 years. I live in a two-story town home that has defective A/C ductwork upstairs. In the heat of summer (or any time the outside temp gets over 80) it will get close to 100 degrees upstairs. I put this unit in a small bedroom that I use as my office/gaming room. It cools it down very nicely. For whatever reason, I have never had to empty the reservoir. The only maintenance I've done is to regularly (every month or two) clean the reusable filter and wipe off any accumulated grunge from the air intake. This unit rocks and if it ever dies, I will buy another.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from SURPASSED EXPECTATIONS. It is still early in our relationship but so far so TERRIFIC. I read all I could about all air conditioning options and needed cool air desperately but I will go through every bit of information carefully. Many good comments were extremely helpful and what tipped it for me as a go was the home delivery and free shipping. I am an older person and on my own so this feature was extra important. And who does not appreciate FREE DELIVERY. Arrived in a timely fashion. Kudos. Taking care of any appliance is a norm for me. Make sure to empty the water collection tank frequently it does seem to affect the coldness. It is early in the season and the real hot weather has just begun... I am crossing fingers and toes that all will keep going in this positive and oh so cool fashion. Well Done Home Depot.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Improving LG 9000 btu unit cooling I recently bought this unit and put it in our bedroom, 14'x14'. I live in southwestern Ohio. We have had a number of 90 degree days. First let me say I'm running a 52" ceiling fan and a 12" desk fan as well. The unit has run nonstop 24 hours a day with the control set at 74 degrees. The temperature in the room during the day never gets below 83 degrees. The duct out the window is well sealed. The air temperature coming from the unit is 60 degrees. Our room is facing north. I'm trying to think why is there such poor cooling in the room. The solution is to keep your exhaust hose as short as you can as exhaust from the unit is pretty warm. If the hose is extended too long it's heating the air around it that goes back into the room which needs to be cooled and so on.... I shortened the distance from the window duct to the unit by collapsing the duct work by pushing it back into itself. It's made a big difference in cooling.
