We regret to read that your LG Front Control Dishwasher in Stainless Steel with Stainless Steel Tub, Model # LDS5040ST is not functioning properly. The unit will need to be inspected to identify what the problem is. The dishwasher soap dispenser releases detergent into the dishwasher so that it can clean the dishes. It could be that the the spring that opens and closes the dishwasher soap holder door is broken or may be stuck due to detergent buildup, preventing the spring from properly operation so that even though detergent will still enter the dishwasher, it just isn't entering the tub during the proper part of the cycle. You can open the detergent dispenser to check for detergent residue and clean it out by rinsing the area with hot water, using a small brush to scrub away the residue. A mix of hot water and vinegar will also work well in this situation. This will dissolve the detergent, and you can clean it off the spring...^IFV Read Less

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by So quiet Large inside, able to wash large sheet pans. Very, very quiet, choice of cycles from normal to delicate to power wash. Adjustable tines, moveable silverware baskets. Just love it. May 24, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by very quiet, lot's of room inside. racks took some getting use to. wash cycle over two hours!! Easy to use. Compact height allows more flexibil installs when replacing older style dishwashers. Looks good. February 23, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Don't Buy! We bought this dishwasher from Home Depot on 1-3-2014 and have had it for 2 years. We can say without any reservation whatsoever that after 2 years, our experience with this dishwasher has been terrible. 1) The wash cycle does not clean dishes, you have to completely pre-wash the dishes before you put them in the unit. 2) Even using the rinse aid, which LG recommends, the dishes are still wet. 3) The bottom rack constantly comes off it's track, especially when the rack is full. 4) The cleaning cycle is over 3 hours. Yes the Dishwasher is very quiet and yes the dishwasher is Direct Drive so the motor will last a lifetime, BUT what good is that is the dishes are never dry and you have to spend time pre-washing to get clean dishes? Defeats the purpose of a dishwasher. PLEASE don't make the same mistake we did, DON'T BUY this dishwasher. Here's is what we have learned: 1) Buy a dishwasher with a heating element if you want truly dry dishes. (Some units give you the option to turn-on the heating element when you start the cleaning cycle.) 2) Buy a dishwasher with racks on roller bearing tracks; the racks stay on their respective tracks. 3) Buy a dishwasher with "extra" water jets so the dishes truly get clean without excessive pre-wash. Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Disappointed I was disappointed with this dishwasher. I had a maytag before which I was very happy with but after 15 years it was wearing out. I ordered this one because I liked the look of it over the maytag. And I thought since it had the features I like it would do well. First it has a hard food grinder/disposal but the drain slots are small not much goes down to get ground up and I ended up having to pick food out of the tub. Second the dishes fall over easy. Third the cycles are long. For the sanitize. scrub, ect. goes over 4 hours. Which seems ridiculous. My maytag for the same type of cycle would be about 2 and half hours. Fourth the tub never seem to dry even on heated dry. I had an issue of gunk getting on the dishes not sure what it was. It may of been grease or something in a line from when it was manufactured or installed. Called HG they wanted to blame it on hard water but it's not that. Whatever it is I think it's clearing. Hoping the more I use it I will like it. October 14, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by pile of junk Bought this dishwasher about a year and a half ago. Worked fine for the first few months and then it would not drain. Contacted LG and they kept sending a repair man to fix it, he must have replaced every part but still would not work. Once the year was up and warranty had expired we were told it was our own fault and LG would no longer do anything about it, worst customer service ever. Today it is going to the curb and my new Maytag from lowes is being installed today. Look up the reviews online about LG and not through the home depot website and you will hundreds of people who had the exact same problem. Never buy LG products they are rubbish. May 24, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Worst dishwasher I've ever used This dishwasher looks beautiful and worked great for about three months, then it's had problem after problem. From not being able to load odd-shaped dishes, the bottom rack constantly falling off the track, to the drain filter clogging (with pre-cleaned dishes) and not being cleanable, this dishwasher has the worst design flaws of any I've ever used. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone. It has now stopped draining properly and water comes out the door. I'm buying a new one and guess what it won't be? An LG! June 21, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Warning do not buy Motor has gone out twice, luckily we purchased the extra warranty to cover the breakdown. I received my purchase price back because they could not replace the motor again due to lack of parts. To me that says the repairs are many. Would not recommend purchasing. June 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Much better than any of the Whirlpool junk...... I had to replace a two year old top of the line Maytag (whirlpool) unit. The Maytag unit had issues with the control panel, which was replaced 5 times in 2 years. Maytag knows they have a quality problem with all their unit of that model, but refused to stand behind their product. As an engineer, I looked at what they tried to build and was shocked by Maytag's poor quality control. In the end, a two year old product went to the dump. This LG has superior features and the build quality is in another league. Whirlpool (Kenmore, Maytag, Hotpoint) is junk these days. LG has them beat in each and every way. The LG is quiet, and does a fantastic job, and has great build quality. Never again for Whirlpool for any consumer product. LG is simply better. May 31, 2016
