We regret to read that your LG Front Control Dishwasher in Stainless Steel with Stainless Steel Tub, Model # LDS5040ST is not functioning properly. The unit will need to be inspected to identify what the problem is. The dishwasher soap dispenser releases detergent into the dishwasher so that it can clean the dishes. It could be that the the spring that opens and closes the dishwasher soap holder door is broken or may be stuck due to detergent buildup, preventing the spring from properly operation so that even though detergent will still enter the dishwasher, it just isn't entering the tub during the proper part of the cycle. You can open the detergent dispenser to check for detergent residue and clean it out by rinsing the area with hot water, using a small brush to scrub away the residue. A mix of hot water and vinegar will also work well in this situation. This will dissolve the detergent, and you can clean it off the spring...^IFV Read Less

Customer Reviews

Rated 3.8 out of 5 by 578 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Such a Regret- rather hand wash This is the worst dishwasher I have ever had the experience of using. The flatware baskets is the worst. Constantly coming unattached, and the center basket is rather small- so you better take off the silver separator, or put long utensils in the rack. The smell that accumulates rather quickly is extremely undesirable. Never have I opened a dishwasher to such a sour smell, and the plumbing is fine. The racks are always coming off the bottom track for no apparent reason, annoying. Oh and the most disappointing, the adjustable rows are the WORST! Dishes are always uneven, falling over, or not sitting upright. Save your money folks and pass on the LG. September 19, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by LG does not live up to it's expectation Options display does not light up the options to select.Have to use a flashlight to see the options.I called the customer service number, they told me that I have poor lighting in my kitchen.Poor design! The display should light up on the panel for the options to select. Also the dishes loose their position when I move the trays back and forth. The only thing that I can say that holds up to it's expectation is the unit has very little noise.I have filed for a complaint,no calls in return.I don't recommend this brand(LG)They got my money and I am stuck with the poor design that was a surpise when the power was supplied and the dishes in the washer. :( September 9, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Worst purchase ever I purchased the dishwasher 14 months ago. It simply stopped working. I called LG to find out what I should do. They sent a technician to diagnose the problem. After 5 minutes he determined the computer was not working, not having the part he said he would have to order it. The warranty was for one year for service, 2 years on parts. Two weeks later he returned with the part spent 15 minutes removing the old and replacing it with the new part and was gone. Cost to me....280 dollars and change. My lesson...stay away from LG. October 11, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Poor dishwasher We bought this dishwasher to replace a twenty year old model. The twenty year old model cleaned dishes better. This dishwasher does not clean dishes well. If the dishes are not completely rinsed, then the dishes do not come out clean. It has racks/tines that you can flip up and down for different size dishes, which I thought would be handy, but they do not stay in one place and are constantly moving, causing dishes to shift. The silverware basket has three compartments that come apart, again I thought this was a good feature. However, every time I try to take the basket out of the dishwasher, one of the baskets comes detached, and I have to spend time putting it back together. The manual says if your dishes are not being cleaned, then you are not using enough soap. However, there is always wet soap scum in the bottom of the dishwasher after it is run. It is never clean. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by DO NOT BUY! Had this dishwasher for 4 years. Problem after problem. It finally started smoking and died, fun experience! Buy a Bosch! October 10, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nice Upgrade Very quiet and high quality. Very happy with purchase. We own two of these models in our family......... August 30, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Don't Waste Your Money We bought this machine in December of 2013 and have had to have it repaired 4 times since-3 times this year alone. The motherboard has been replaced, the water intake valve has been replaced 3 times and the pump was replaced today. To say I am upset is to put it mildly, LG Customer Service is a disaster as it would appear to be located somewhere outside the United States and their representatives are not proficient in English. Just to get an "LG approved repairmen" in the door costs a minimum of $150. I will never again buy LG and would not recommend it. August 17, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Dishwasher My actual rating is 4.5 stars. After 7+ months I am thus far well pleased with the LG LDS5040ST dishwasher with one exception. It's quiet- in a great room open concept type kitchen you can't even hear it running while watching TV on the other side. The flexible rack system makes it easy to fit big pots and oddball shaped items. It cleans well, far better than the Kenmore Elite it replaced ever did. No more rewashing silverware and pots/pans. As for long cycle times .... get used to it. It's the new norm for most all manufacturers ever since phosphorus was removed from dishwashing detergent. http://www.npr.org/2010/12/15/132072122/it-s-not-your-fault-your-dishes-are-still-dirty The hybrid drying system works very well if the dishwasher is loaded the way it's supposed to be (i.e. cups and glasses tipped)- no dish towel needed. As for the lower rack coming off the track, it's become a non-issue after getting used to the dishwasher. Our previous dishwasher required much more effort to pull out and close the racks. With the LG that level of effort is like a bull in a china shop; two fingers require all the effort necessary... it stays on the track- end of story. My one complaint and the reason for the 1/2 star demerit, has to do with the LED's for the cycle options- "Sanitary", "Extra Rinse" and "Extra Dry". They're not properly labeled nor clearly backlit which makes selection a lot more difficult than it needs to be. I've used the dishwasher enough so the locations are committed to memory but that's not the way to design a control panel. Probably the best piece of advice I can give is READ THE OWNER'S MANUAL!! If you do and follow the advice given, I believe you will be a satisfied owner as I am. September 4, 2016
