Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by A Quiet Beauty! The dishwasher was relatively easy to install. It is so quiet I dont have to turn up the volume on the TV at all when it’s running. As a matter of fact, it’s quieter than my fridge! My dishes come out clean, and of course that’s the important part. Cycles are pretty long, but that’s not a big deal in our household. I can set it to wash overnight and they’re clean in the morning. Unless you use rinse aid, they don’t come out as dry, but that is something they warn you about in the instructions. The only thing I don’t like, or LOVE about this dishwasher is the bottom rack track isn’t very good. If you pull out the lower rack too far, the wheels come off the track and you have to fiddle with it to push it back in. Otherwise, large dishes fit, and for the first time I can wash my big mixing bowl in it! My plastic lids don’t wind up in the tub bottom, and the fact that there’s no heating element down there means no burnt plastic. Overall, 4 stars out of 5! August 5, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very nice unit; all looks well so far Understand I am writing this after installation and one use. However, it's already clear that the dishes are much cleaner than my 7 year old GE profile. Glasses and dishes are "squeaky clean." I was disappointed to have to purchase the "required" installation kit, which was nothing more than a supply line and some fittings that were not required. My existing line was fine and it was $19.99 down the drain. A new drain line is included with the dishwasher. I am a former GE employee and it breaks my heart to say that, of the five new GE Profile appliances I purchased in 2007, three have had major, expensive issues, including the dishwasher I replaced with this LG. No more GE for me, I'm afraid. Frankly, it's a shame. Installation was easy. In my case, I had to build a couple of "skis" to raise the unit by 1/2 inch, as I needed it to be 34" to fit flush under the cabinet and, with legs fully extended, top height is 33.5 inches. We have granite countertops, so I screwed the unit directly into my cabinet stiles, using short drywall screws rather than the provided screws. A very nice feature is that you can adjust the rear legs from the front while the unit is in place...very convenient. Note that this unit does NOT have a heated dry option, something that was going to keep my from purchasing it until I read the reviews. I just unloaded my first full-cycle wash and all my dishes were not only dry, but still warm. LG uses some unique technology to ensure drying with lower energy costs. LG is pretty strict about an acceptable "zone" for the plumbing access hole (for the drain and supply lines). My existing hole was about 25% outside the zone so I drilled a new hole in compliance with the template provided. All in all, so far, a very positive experience, including delivery by Kid Glove. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Design & Functionality at this Pricepoint Relatively easy do-it-yourself installation due to thoughtful design that places adjustment screws for rear leg height at front of unit. Very quiet, but not completely silent, as some reviewers suggest. My unit may make more noise because I installed an air gap at the sink. I absolutely love the clean flat front with no protrusions since I've placed the dishwasher at a right angle (see photo) to adjacent cabinet, allowing drawers to open in front of the face of the dishwasher with ample clearance. The hybrid drying system has worked flawlessly--dishes and glasses come out "squeaky clean" and spotless. My favorite feature is the "top rack only" cycle that saves water and energy for the majority of our dishwashing needs. The LDS5540ST has plenty of capacity on board when we entertain family and friends. Has been in use for one week--will update if reliability issues arise. August 2, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Found fix for HE error Don't buy this dishwasher. It does clean decently but has failed multiple times in less then two years. Update: if you get HE error, pull out the dishwasher and check the left side where several tubes are located. There is a clear box that has two floats in it, there are electrical wires connected to switches that can be triggered by the floats. The problem is, gunk gets built up on the floats and in the clear box that holds the floats. If the floats can't function, the water will not feel up correctly in the tub, overheating the heating element, resulting in an HE error. Once you clear it out and reconnect, no more HE error! Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by LGB Dish Washer So far the Dishwasher works great and is quiet.. Some things that bother me are: There is no "finish light" when the dishes are done and there is "no cancel button".. To cancel the wash, you have to open the door and close it then push two buttons. Top rack is hard to place glasses on. It seems to be set up for one row of glasses on left side. The fork and knife baskets are cheap, flimsy and come apart. The baskets are in three parts attached to each other. When you try to lift a full basket up, they will come apart. Total junk for a high end washer. May 12, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Quiet If there is a quieter dishwasher, I'd love to hear it or not hear it. So far, pleased with the cleaning and drying of this model. I like the fact that it does not use a hot heating element to dry, we use a lot of the insulated type drinking cups so now we feel safe this dishwasher won't melt them while drying. Really wish I would have paid more attention and ordered the model that has the 3rd top rack for larger utensils . The loading space is very generous both top and bottom so I'm sure the lack of 3rd rack will work out. Cons-wish the controls on the right side had some sort of backlighting. Overall, very pleased with this model. October 11, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Failed purchase! This product has an alert out from LG to their service providers that a major component to this dishwasher has a FLAW. Purchased mine in July 2014 and within 3 1/2 months (very little use) started to hear an UNBEARABLE HIGH PITCHED SQUEAL I did not buy extended warranty from Home Depot and the purchase was just over the 90 day return policy. BIG FAIL! Home Depot did nothing to help so I was forced to call LG for assistance. I am a diligent review checker and at the time of my research found nothing to alert me of the mistake I was about to make. I knew it was necessary to keep you who do check informed. This product should not be allowed for sale. I'm so sorry I purchased this product and would not recommend it to anyone! December 10, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by QUIETEST Dishwasher ever... We just put in granite counter tops and all new appliances from Home Depot. I didn't realize how noisy my dishwasher was until I got a new one. I find myself keep going back to it to make sure I have turned it on. It hums...very softly. All the appliances are awesome! My refrigerator is so cool....I just want to live in it! Check out the picture I just imagine all white appliances with GREEN counter tops. I know... 1998 was calling and wanting their stuff back. I should have bought stock in Home Depot years ago. I live in this store. My husband cringes when he hears me say "I'm going to run by Home Depot" a matter of fact, he has forbidden me a few times to visit the store all the while mumbling something about "you don't know when to stop or can't you leave well enough alone...or the best one is... here comes another project for me".... I haven't broken it to him yet BUT ...bathrooms are next. :) August 12, 2014
