Rated 5 out of 5Â by Fixitdad Very nice unit; all looks well so far
Understand I am writing this after installation and one use. However, it's already clear that the dishes are much cleaner than my 7 year old GE profile. Glasses and dishes are "squeaky clean."
I was disappointed to have to purchase the "required" installation kit, which was nothing more than a supply line and some fittings that were not required. My existing line was fine and it was $19.99 down the drain. A new drain line is included with the dishwasher.
I am a former GE employee and it breaks my heart to say that, of the five new GE Profile appliances I purchased in 2007, three have had major, expensive issues, including the dishwasher I replaced with this LG. No more GE for me, I'm afraid. Frankly, it's a shame.
Installation was easy. In my case, I had to build a couple of "skis" to raise the unit by 1/2 inch, as I needed it to be 34" to fit flush under the cabinet and, with legs fully extended, top height is 33.5 inches. We have granite countertops, so I screwed the unit directly into my cabinet stiles, using short drywall screws rather than the provided screws. A very nice feature is that you can adjust the rear legs from the front while the unit is in place...very convenient.
Note that this unit does NOT have a heated dry option, something that was going to keep my from purchasing it until I read the reviews. I just unloaded my first full-cycle wash and all my dishes were not only dry, but still warm. LG uses some unique technology to ensure drying with lower energy costs.
LG is pretty strict about an acceptable "zone" for the plumbing access hole (for the drain and supply lines). My existing hole was about 25% outside the zone so I drilled a new hole in compliance with the template provided.
All in all, so far, a very positive experience, including delivery by Kid Glove.

The dishwasher was relatively easy to install. It is so quiet I donât have to turn up the volume on the TV at all when itâs running. As a matter of fact, itâs quieter than my fridge! My dishes come out clean, and of course thatâs the important part. Cycles are pretty long, but thatâs not a big deal in our household. I can set it to wash overnight and theyâre clean in the morning. Unless you use rinse aid, they donât come out as dry, but that is something they warn you about in the instructions. The only thing I donât like, or LOVE about this dishwasher is the bottom rack track isnât very good. If you pull out the lower rack too far, the wheels come off the track and you have to fiddle with it to push it back in. Otherwise, large dishes fit, and for the first time I can wash my big mixing bowl in it! My plastic lids donât wind up in the tub bottom, and the fact that thereâs no heating element down there means no burnt plastic. Overall, 4 stars out of 5!

Rated 5 out of 5Â by Spud QUIETEST Dishwasher ever...
We just put in granite counter tops and all new appliances from Home Depot. I didn't realize how noisy my dishwasher was until I got a new one. I find myself keep going back to it to make sure I have turned it on. It hums...very softly. All the appliances are awesome! My refrigerator is so cool....I just want to live in it! Check out the picture I posted....now just imagine all white appliances with GREEN counter tops. I know... 1998 was calling and wanting their stuff back. I should have bought stock in Home Depot years ago. I live in this store. My husband cringes when he hears me say "I'm going to run by Home Depot"...as a matter of fact, he has forbidden me a few times to visit the store all the while mumbling something about "you don't know when to stop or can't you leave well enough alone...or the best one is... here comes another project for me".... I haven't broken it to him yet BUT ...bathrooms are next. :)

Rated 5 out of 5Â by Noodlebluesman Great Design & Functionality at this Pricepoint
Relatively easy do-it-yourself installation due to thoughtful design that places adjustment screws for rear leg height at front of unit. Very quiet, but not completely silent, as some reviewers suggest. My unit may make more noise because I installed an air gap at the sink. I absolutely love the clean flat front with no protrusions since I've placed the dishwasher at a right angle (see photo) to adjacent cabinet, allowing drawers to open in front of the face of the dishwasher with ample clearance. The hybrid drying system has worked flawlessly--dishes and glasses come out "squeaky clean" and spotless. My favorite feature is the "top rack only" cycle that saves water and energy for the majority of our dishwashing needs. The LDS5540ST has plenty of capacity on board when we entertain family and friends. Has been in use for one week--will update if reliability issues arise.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by Lini Overall, a great machine.
I did a lot of research before purchasing a dishwasher. I went into various stores and felt the ergonomics of all the items. This was by far the most sturdy feeling dishwasher. It also has the best consumer reports for its price group. My budget was around $700. Home Depot had an awesome sale too.
I love the easy rack, its very convenient. It is very quiet and has all the modes i need. Most importantly, it works really well. I put in a crusty casserole dish and it left it sparkling. It also leaves the dishes bone dry with the regular cycle. Great energy star features like the smart cycle and top rack only which is nice for single or small households.
Delivery was a breeze. It was easy to install so I saved some money my having my husband install it.
I would recommend to a friend.
