DRYING CYCLE?

I UNDERSTAND THERE IS NO HEATING ELEMENT, SO, HOW DO THE DISHES COME OUT DRY OR DO THEY. THANK YOU.
Asked by: EORR
Hot water tends to evaporate more-quickly, until the air is humid; this model LG dishwasher circulates air through the dishwasher, removing the humidity. That causes the remaining water to evaporate quickly. The dishwasher mixes this air with room-temperature air, which cools it down and causes the water to condense into a drain. That's an unpowered dehumidifier strategy, which takes advantage of the temperature differential (the air in the dishwasher is hot; the air outside is more-cold; use the cold air in place of a condenser coil). It takes about an hour for the dishes to dry. As long as you're not saving up dishes all week and planning to do multiple loads all at once, it works. The dishwasher body and heavy plates retain heat, so you can open the dishwasher once to (quickly) retrieve a specific pot if needed; a lazy wash strategy is optimal, though. Dishwashing isn't exactly a fast task anyway.

Customer Reviews

Top Control Dishwasher with 3rd Rack and Steam in Stainless Steel with Stainless Steel Tub is rated 3.6 out of 5 by 157.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Dishwasher I was a little hesitant to buy this dishwasher because of some of the other reviews, but because the rest of my kitchen consists of LG appliances and I really like them, I took the risk. I am very glad I did. This dishwasher is fantastic! It cleans everything very well, has lots of different wash options, is very quiet, and looks great. I highly recommend it!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from not dependable barely over 2 years old and the water pump is out once again. only appliance I have ever felt the need to purchase an extended warranty. Even that hasn't helped. Repairman here yesterday and this model has a unique pump....presently not able to find one on this continent. This is the THIRD pump in 2 years 2 months. Must be run on heavy duty cycle in order to clean satisfactorily. Very very dissatisfied . Feel LG should replace the unit as I gave premium price and have received less than premium performance. Has been inoperable now for 11 days and counting. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good, not great Like it, don't love it. A few things bug me: 1. The "load finished" light goes off after 4 minutes or, if you re-program it, stays on only until the door is opened for the first time. That means you either unload it at once or risk having the "are these dishes clean?" debate. My previous dishwasher had a "clean" light that stayed on until you turned it off. 2. Tines are oddly spaced. Normally I wouldn't care, but the manual warns you to place glasses between, not over, the tines or run the risk of water spots. Never had that issue before but with this one there is strong spotting wherever a tine touches glass. Haven't figured out a good adjustment for the tines yet other than lowering them completely and risk having no barrier between rows. 3. This machine is slightly deeper (front to back) than any other that I've used. Since I have an old kitchen with a hardwired connection, the conduit elbow in the wall means the dishwasher sticks out nearly an inch whereas its predecessor was flush with the cabinets. Not a tragedy, but if you have a similar installation, have the wiring relocated before installing. 4. Others have mentioned how silly it is not to have backlighting on the control buttons and I agree. Trying to read dark gray text on a shiny black surface is hard enough in strong light and impossible in low light. A well-placed LED would make things much easier 5. Spray on the third rack can be weak, so don't rely on it to clean things that are very dirty. On the other hand, this dishwasher has some strengths: 1. It's VERY quiet (yay!). 2. Looks and feels solid, with tight door seals and a reliable latch. 3. Adjustments (height of second rack, configuration of third rack) are easy and intuitive 4. Although I haven't tried out all the wash cycles and combinations yet, I like that they are there and am cautiously optimistic that I will always be able to make a good match to the level of dirt. Bottom line: buy this if quiet operation is paramount and you don't mind paying extra for flexibility in configuration and wash cycles. But be aware that some stupid design decisions make using this machine far less pleasant than it should.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst Dishwasher of my Life I regret ever purchasing this dishwasher and wish I could return it. It does a horrible job at washing the dishes so everything must be scrubbed off before I put it in, the tines that hold the dishes always fall, the rack for your glasses is designed at a weird angle so glasses don't fit and fall over and break (tried many types of glasses and none stay up), the energy rating I thought was great---until I found out that to get that they took out a heated drying cycle so your dishes have to air dry which I have to open the dishwasher to dry my dishes, the third rack doesn't clean any flatware I have put in it and is small that it doesn't hold anything else. The only good thing I can say about this dishwasher is that it is quiet---I'd take back my noisy one though for the job this one does. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 1 out of 5 by from all glasses on top rack fall over For some reason, when you put glasses on the top rack (technically the 2nd rack), they don't stay upright and fall over when you close the door.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Very quiet but does so so cleaning job We've had this dishwasher about 2 years. The best thing about it is how quiet it is; you don't even know it's running. The tines in the bottom rack are a little wacky and I can't seem to get my plates to sit just right but it's not a huge deal (moreso that I can't pack the bottom rack as efficiently as I would like). I like the third rack for little items. Unfortunately for the cost, I don't think it adequately cleans the dishes, particularly when the finishing rinse detergent runs out. I sometimes find food stuck on dishes and silverware. The latest problem is that the wheels on the bottom rack have somehow tilted and the rack falls off the track, particularly when full we plan to buy replacement wheels to see if that solves the problem. They are cheap but for the cost of the dishwasher I would expect the wheels to last longer. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 3rd rack awesome for mom of toddlers We bought this back in November of 15. Our old one was very loud, so my mother in law bought us a new one for Christmas. When I started my hunt, I had an infant and a 2 year old, so a must for me was quiet with a 3rd rack. After research, I came across the LG, and I have been happy with my decision since we brought it home! It is very user friendly, the 3rd rack is always full of knives, pacifiers, bottle nipples, sippy tops, toddler spoons and forks, love that feature, as well as the second rack being able to adjust the height, as well as all purple being movable. I'm very very happy with this, and any mother of toddler or kids, would absolutely love this dishwasher, its so quiet and can wash a lot! My only honest complaint, if the bottom rack falls of the tracks, I tend to cuss it as its full and trying to get it back on the track! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 3 out of 5 by from There's better out there Well insulated and very quiet. Dishes will still be warm 12 hours after finish of cycle. But doesn't clean as well as our 18 year old Kenmore did. Newer models should improve things, no? Touch controls are very hard to read without putting your face on top of them. Bottom rack comes off track too easily, and God help you to get it back on track. Tines that hold plates upright could be taller, and they don't seem to be durable...are they plastic? In the rack for glasses, only two of the rows have tines wide enough to fit a glass flush with the bottom. The tines can spread, but that doesn't change how wide the bottom is. C'mon LG, you could've done better. Didn't you use it yourself before putting it on the market? Can't recommend this one.
