What is proper way of installation of LG Model LDF7774ST (with drain pipe on left side of the machine) ? the left side of kitchen sink ?

Just had it installed (by HomeDepot arragned contractor) on left side of kitchen sink under granite-toped kitchen island ( - this was a replacement of 10 yr old builder installed Maytag dish washer). The contractor had to place the discharge pipe behind the dishwasher to bring it from left side of dish washer to the under-sink cabinet on the right side of the dish washer ( across a 10-inch cabinet between the washer and the sink. This placement made the dishwasher about 1-inch ( thickness of discharge pipe) more out of the granite overhang of the counter top. Also the factory discharge pipe was not long enough to reach intake port on the garbage disposal. The contractor spliced a piece of old discharge pipe on to new discharge pipe using the ordinary hose-clamp ( he had to cut away the wider female end of the pipe. ( Is it Okey to splice soft plastic discharge pipe in this manner ? Wouldn’t this be prone to leak ? Does any warranty cover leak of such installation ? Is there a proper way to extend to discharge pipe ( when you have dishwasher on the left side of the sink ) ?. Installation instructions assume that dishwasher will be always on the right-side of the kitchen sink (with no cabinet between the washer and the sink ). The old Maytag had discharge pipe on the right side of the machine. It is obvious that the design of the product and the kitchen lay out (i.e lack or ignorance of standards/practices) creates future problem for homeowner . Neither installer, seller, home-builder nor appliance manufacturer have responsibility to it right ! I do not like my dishwasher excessively sticking out from under the counter-top.

The National Kitchen and Bath Association updates and publishes basic standards which give guidelines on the placement of a dishwasher. There are several reasons as to why your cutlery may be getting rust spots on it when washed in the LG Top Control Dishwasher with 3rd Rack in Stainless Steel with Stainless Steel Tub, Model # LDF7774ST. The first thing you may want to verify is that your cutlery is marked as dishwasher safe. 'Stainless steel' is steel to which chrome has been added for rust resistance and often nickel for acid resistance. Top quality stainless steel will have a higher amount of chrome and nickel and most forks and spoons will have excellent corrosion resistance, but knife blades tend to be made of a harder steel that gives a lasting edge but is more likely to rust eventually from repeated washing in the dishwasher. Rusting can be reduced by avoiding leaving acidic or salty food remnants on your cutlery that will stain it. Rinsing the cutlery before placing it in the dishwasher, especially if you not running the dishwasher immediately, should help. You will also want to make sure that you dry the cutlery immediately after washing it it it hasn't dried completely. Avoid overpacking the cutlery basket, make sure that your cutlery pieces are not touching each other. Your knives if packed too closely can scratch each other and the strong bleaching agents in dishwasher detergents can strip some of the chrome from the stainless steel making them more prone to rust. Avoid soaking the cutlery for long periods of time in soapy water. Experts generally recommend washing good quality knives by hand...^IFV Read Less

Rated 3.7 out of 5 by 519 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Quietest machine ever! I happened upon this review page while looking for an appliance for my daughter. I normally read reviews but seldom write one, but I am so pleased with this purchase that I told my spouse when we move again, this dishwasher goes with us even if we have to purchase one to take it's place under the counter! This dishwasher was purchased as part of an overall kitchen redo about two years ago and it has been the quietest dishwasher I have ever owned. In fact, in the beginning I used to go look to make sure it was really on. For that reason alone I would rate it highly. It also cleans very well, my disclaimer being that I remove baked-on food stuffs before putting anything in a dishwasher so don't know how it works on heavily soiled pots and pans. (Being on a septic system, I don't allow food remains to go down the drain.) PROS: -- VERY quiet. Cleans well. Loads easily. -- The top rack spines are such as to accommodate dinnerware, but I normally use the bottom dinnerware holder, and the top rack for large utensils (ie, large kitchen knives, tongs, spatulas) -- The top rack trays can be removed easily for loading and unloading. But yes, they do come out un-expectantly unless properly put in place. -- Both middle and bottom racks have spines that fold to accommodate large items; very handy! -- The washer has been in use for 2 years now and neither the outside, racks or stainless steel tub show any wear. CONS: -- Price. This is not a cheap washer, but then quality never is. It also goes on sale occasionally making it a value worth-while purchase. -- The top controls are sometimes difficult to see when mounted under a counter top with the traditional 2" overhang. Fortunately the various functions light up when pressed and can be programmed with the door open, making them easier to see. (Note: Nothing activates until you close the door...) OTHER: -- The "Auto" function will take 2 hrs 15 minutes to finish, so is best used when time is not of concern. The "Heavy" function takes even longer: 2:45 ; "Normal" takes ~1:15 (Enclosed literature gives a complete chart of functions, their wash temps, heat temps, water usage, cycle times, and spray intensities.) -- A rinse aid is a must. Without it your items WILL spot, even if you are using softened water. Apparently there is no heating element in this model and dishes dry with the use of a rinse aid and the "hybrid drying system". Also, if you don't use a rinse aid water will remain in the tub. July 7, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Tacky Sticker Not Intended To Be Removed I love Home Depot's delivery, and installation and price so I ordered my dishwasher from them. It was installed great but the washer has a tacky 10 year warranty metal sticker not shown in photos that LG recommends not removing as it will damage the steal front. It is truly awful and an eyesore!! The top shelf seems like a good idea until one starts using it. It is simply in the way and flies off easily. Normal wash has been going on for over 2 hours. It says if you really want stuff to be dry add extra dry setting and the manual says that takes 60 minutes. Yikes!! April 24, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Buyer BEWARE! Before buying this product you should double check the company warranties. Our Dishwasher began showing signs of surface rust on the stainless steel exterior less than 4 months in service. The company representatives stated that is considered cosmetic and NOT covered. When I asked how Stainless Steel could be rusting, especially on a dishwasher a kitchen appliance that uses water I was told they couldn't get in to the coatings they use but its not covered. If you are considering a stainless steel appliance I would stay away from LG. May 2, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Average Review. Would choose another model. We purchased the unit almost two months ago. Overall, it is a very nice looking unit. The stainless steel design is sleek. It operates almost silently, and I love the third rack (cutlery rack). The third rack was the main reason I chose this unit over others. We replaced a 7 year old Maytag. The lack of drying options was no concern for us, since we normally let the dishes air dry anyway. The wash cycle times are very long, so we usually choose the quick wash option. We typically rinse off our dishes before loading them. I have noticed some small white spots appearing on our glasses - I'm hoping that resolves itself quickly. We have a household water softener and we use a rinse aid in the unit, so there's no reason for the hard water marks to be appearing. We had no such problems with our previous dishwasher. My two biggest complaints are: (1) the LED panel doesnt light up when the power button is pressed. The power button lights up and the timer displays, but that's it. I can barely see the panel options, they are so dark (dark grey on black). This does not make any sense at all to me. I would assume that all the panel lights would engage until I make my choice of wash options, then the other lights would disengage. No such luck. There are a number of nifty wash options available, but they are pretty much useless to me because I cannot see them. I have memorized where the quick wash button is, so I can press it and get the dishes washed. I dont have time to read the manual or get out the flashlight every time I do the dishes. (2) there is no clean wash indicator light anywhere. I am really shocked by this. Every dishwasher I've owned in the past 15 years has had a clean wash indicator. I'm getting a little irritated having to ask my husband 2 or 3 times per week to ask: are these clean? I cant believe that a dishwasher this advanced is missing something so simple. All in all, I would probably have chosen another unit if I had known about the led panel issue and the lack of clean wash indicator. Paying the extra money for the third rack doesnt seem like it was worth it at this point. March 20, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Really quiet and almost soothing sound We purchased this dishwasher to match the fridge we just bought. My favorite upside of the dishwasher is how quiet it is. I also think the sound is almost soothing. It sounds like raindrops. We had a really old noisy dishwasher before so this was such a huge difference. On the downside, I dont find the third rack to be very helpful. I will occasionally put things up there but it is rare since so little things fit there. I guess it is just a bonus rack. Outside of that I love the machine. I keep testing it out by putting dirtier dishes or dishes that I think are harder to clean but everything comes off. My dishwashing experience has definitely been simplified with this machine. June 7, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great dishwasher! Does a great cleaning job and is super quiet compared to others that we have had over the years. July 19, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by One of the quietest dishwashers I have ever had the pleasure of owning. This is by far one of the quietest dishwashers I have ever had the pleasure of owning. I would definitely recommend for that purpose alone. July 8, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Hard to load My complaint with this dishwasher is that it's very difficult to load. The tines on the bottom rack are strangely spaced and it's difficult to figure out where to place the dishes, which don't hold very well in place. The other problem is that it's very easy for the bottom rack to get off the track and difficult to get it back on, especially when full of dishes. On the middle rack, the glasses and cups tip over unless placed on a prong, which is not recommended because of scratching. The top rack is useless unless the middle rack is empty because things don't get clean up there, so why put it in at all.. Positives - it looks good, cleans well, is quiet. All in all, I'm very disappointed June 7, 2016
