Customer Questions & Answers

what is the spring angle on this moulding?

I placed it in the crown king jig at 45 degree spring angle and the inside corner did not meet up. Is it possible that this spring angle is 38 degrees? How can I tell?
Asked by: JB
The Depth (distance from ceiling) is 3.625 inches and the width (distance from the wall) is 2.8125 inches - since they're not the same the spring angle will not be 45-degrees. The spring angle comes out at 38-degrees.

Customer Reviews

LWM 49 1/2 in. x 3 5/8 in. x 144 in. MDF Primed Crown Moulding Pro Pack 60 LF (5-Pieces) is rated 2.0 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from I would recommend buying a name brand product over this stuff The product didn't mention the spring angles, which isn't a problem but would have saved me some time. I found some of the spring angles weren't consistent and were off a couple of degrees, which makes an inside corner cope not fit right. An example: I was doing an inside corner and the corner measured 90 degrees with my angle finder. I cut the appropriate miter cut for 90 degrees with the spring angles of 38 and 52, which is what the crown is. After coping the cut the joint was totally off. I ended up using the degree setting for an 87 degree corner on a 45, 45 spring angle. I would recommend buying a name brand moulding over this MDF stuff.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from spring angles I've used this in the past... The problem with the spring angles is usually not the material, but that it doesn't get set right (neither edge is actually tight to wall or ceiling). To avoid this, nail in the center of pieces first, so you can "roll" the corners up or down to make your cope or miter fit. Granted, mdf does chip easily, and it's not hard to ding up a corner installing.
