I have used the cheaper plastic type and it is really a waste. The good ol fabric underlayment is just a better value. Heavy weight, lays out easier. It is very durable and holds up for years over the propylene stuff.

Good product. Easy to put down. It would have been perfect if it came with the weed cloth stakes. A little bit expensive but seems to be worth the money.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by theoddtomato Thin and light, not the black shown in the photo
This product is not what it appears on the HD site. It is quite thin and tears easily. It's a light translucent gray so it will not stop sunlight from penetrating and, therefore, won't stop weed growth. As it says on the packaging but not on the description, 3" of mulch is required on top of this product to stop weeds, so it really serves no purpose. It does, however, allow for ease of water penetration and air circulation.

Easy to spread out as long as there's no wind (obviously!). Good for the job we were using it for.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by heavysky Holds up well over time but does tear easily
This material is not cheap but holds up well over time - I've even used it as a flooring material on the floor of my greenhouse (to avoid bare ground) and although it can be torn easily if not staked down well it holds up amazingly well (years) otherwise. It will let some sunlight penetrate so if you use it as weedblock you must cover it with mulch, gravel etc. or grass & weeds will continue to grow underneath it pushing it upward. Lets rain / water pass through to the soil very easily which is one of my favorite characteristics.

Used under river rock. It seems heavy enough to stand the test of time. We shall see!
