Customer Questions & Answers

what should i use to stake these down?

I want to stake these into the ground to retain some gravel. What should I use to stake them into the ground?
Asked by: Tony
To attach them together I use five and a half inch roof tile nails, Drilling a slightly undersized pilot hole first. To attach into the ground use rebar cut to the size needed to get a good bite into the ground. Drill a pilot hole for the rebar as well. I generally do the rebar on the next to last course using only tile nails on the cap course. They make screws for this but this can get expensive quick. I have used this procedure for years and it not only looks good, it stands the test of time.

Customer Reviews

Landscape Timber Cherrytone (Common: 8 ft.; Actual: 96 in.) is rated 3.5 out of 5 by 22.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good deal Well you get what you pay for. These are peeler cores or the like and you have to expect twisting and cracking. Anothet coat of stain helps control it a little. I purchased 2 pallets at sale price and will attempt a rail fence. Will followup later. 5 stars really goes to edgar, nick, and mondo in gardening at store 6644 panorama city. Customer service did a great job with the paper. Loaded my truck, those guys and gals are team players and I write this review to recognize them. Thank you Home Depot.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from watch for splinters I purchased these to border my garden edge, in a few weeks one of them bowed severely in the middle. When I returned to the store to replace it, the ones the store had were all bowed also. I recommend sawing these in half before using to prevent this from happening.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Use something else I only purchased these because my yard was already landscaped with this type and major repairs were required and I wasn't able to start over with different material. This year these timbers are in horrible shape. They are warped, twisted, split, and pitchy. Add to those flaws that this year all the stores have raised the prices considerably and they are not a good choice. I recommend going a different way for a person starting fresh.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from You'll be lucky to find a decent one I found only one timber out of the two giant piles that wasn't twisted, cracked in multiple places, covered in sap, or all of the above. I would have thought this was just my local store but the other reviews seem to indicate a company wide problem. You'll have to search to find decent ones.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Termites love these cheap and great if you they are temporary. Putting wood on the ground is asking for trouble. In 2 years, had to toss them since they were all full of live termites. Replaced with bricks which will outlive me.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from 1/2 what they use to be I have old landscape ties, some need replacing. Bought originals at HD, so thought i could find replacements there too. The ties now available are 1/2 the width of the old ones and every one had severe cracks. Junk that won't match what they sold in prior years.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Product , Great Price We used these to build a raised flower bed in the front yard to divide our lawn from the neighbor. Worked out so beautifully that we bought more to use in the backyard... And you just can't beat the great price. The only issue you need to watch for is that some of the timber was warped and if you are using them one on top of the other, they need to match up.
