Questions & Answers

Are the fan blades and wire cage metal or plastic?

Asked by: cd33
The cage is metal, the frame is plastic. The blades are plastic as well, and they are failing after a years use.

What is the Storm Feature?

Some reviewers have said the storm feature allows the window to be closed when you want to close it. Does that mean the entire fan is not inside the open window; rather it is in front of the whole window frame?
Asked by: CL929
The fan blades have a built-in shield that wraps around the motor housing, thus providing some protection from moisture. The whole fan mounts inside the window frame, in most cases, allowing you to open and close your window without removing the fan.

can this be installed vertically?

Can this fan be installed vertically? in a sliding glass window 24w x 30h? and still have the stormguard work? thanks
Asked by: jbwheat4
As long as the window opening is at least 22 inch wide and less than 34-1/2 inches high, it should work.

16 in. Electrically Reversible Window Fan is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 433.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great fan For the money this fan is great! It helps to move the air when you don't quite need air conditioning. We've had ours for three years now and I wouldn't change a thing! Very happy!

I have it in a window upstairs where the bedrooms are and in one of the guest bedrooms. During the day I open the door to my patio. It pulls air in the door up the stairs and out the window, this keeps the upstairs cooler too. At night I open my two bedroom windows. This fan pulls the cool night air in so efficiently I added a thermostat at the receptacle it plugs into. Noisy? I think it should be expected to make some sound, you don't buy a large fan if your looking for silence, I don't hear it at all in the other rooms. The fact I can close the window when Central AC is on without removing it is a great plus. Just make sure you turn it off at switch when the window is closed and using a thermostat like I do.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does exactly what I bought it to do. One of the few things I've bought that I can say that about. :) I bought it because several evenings/nights here in Florida it's warm enough inside to need the AC yet the outside air feels cool and dry enough that it seems a waste to run the AC. I put it in a window in an unused room, turn it on exhaust, open the window by my bed(or wherever I am) and have a nice QUIET cool breeze that I could never achieve with my floor fan. I feel it's one of those all-too-few "good investments" that I've tried to make that actually worked. I realize that with the thick humidy down here in the summer, there will be nights when it won't do the trick but until then, it does just what I bought it for.

We have a an attic space that has zero insulation, with the sun beating down on the roof all day. Interior temperatures up to 110 F. The dimensions of the attic are 20' x 20' x 20'. We were hoping that this fan would be able to exhaust some of this hot air to the outside, lowering the temperature and thus lowering air conditioning usage in the rooms adjacent to this space. After a 1 week experiment we returned the fan. The fan didn't make a dent in the temperature. Pros: Install was relatively easy, like the fact that you can leave the fan in the window, yet shut the window when raining. Delivery from the online order was on time. Return was easy. Quiet. Cons: No electrical information whatsoever. There was no information on the Lasko website, on the product documentation delivered with the fan nor no label or sticker on the fan itself. No guideline on recommended square footage for exhaust, which would have helped me in my decision to select this fan or not.

The 1st one's motor burned out after about 15-16 months. I thought I just had a lemon, so I ordered a replacement here. It died the same way after 14 months. If you are handy with tools, the manufacturer sells the replacement motor for less than 50 dollars shipped.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Would have gotten 5 stars but noisy on high.... Would have gotten 5 stars but noisy on high. Low is quite and medium is bearable but high only will be used when absolutely necessary. Circulates a good amount of air on low. Easy to install even though the template is only for lower window and I installed it in the top window.
