What is the Storm Feature?

Some reviewers have said the storm feature allows the window to be closed when you want to close it. Does that mean the entire fan is not inside the open window; rather it is in front of the whole window frame?

The storm feature is the ability to close the window with the fan in place. No need to remove the fan unless you want to clean it, etc.

Answer:
The fan mounts to the side trim of the window just in front of the lower sash with the sash closed. Two screws go into the side trim on each side which the expander panels hook to. After mounting the fan can be removed by lifting an inch or so and pulling the expander panels in a bit. You may have to remove/alter the sash handle(s) in order to allow the sash to move smoothly up and down behind the fan. Read More

The Lasko fan I purchased is installed in an up and down window and used as an exhaust fan, though it is reversible. I placed it in the window and did not screw it into the molding. It rests on the window sill and the top window holds it in place. It has 3 speeds and cools our duplex house.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by best product really easy to assemble.. 2 way air circulation loved it. June 30, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best Ever Reversible Window Fan This is our third reversible Lasko window fan! Our 1898 story and half house has no central air, I so appreciate Home Depot offering this fan on line and shipping free with in a few days! I can bring cool air in at night in or pull hot air out during the dayt! I put one in the East Window and one in the West window upstairs, this is the best window fan I have ever had. I had one after years of use, die in the middle of summer, I called the Lasko company and they shipped me a new one by "air over night" at no extra charge, they work for years. I would never buy another brand or kind for window use except Lasko! Recommend very highly! You'll never regret buying one! Very Happy Customer In the Inland Northwest West August 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by gets job done At the slow setting the noise is very low and you still get a good amount of air flow from it. It definitely made a difference from the other types smaller window fans. September 6, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great ventilator. Perfect high volume air movement and quiet, fair price, quick delivery, very happy with this purchase. August 30, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by 16 in. Reversible fan (Lasko) Using in garage in NC to get heat out. Using primarily the exhaust feature. Does a fair job . Think mostly intended for rooms. like the intake/exhaught & 3 speeds for each. August 20, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Wouldn't be home without it I've owned Lasko window fans all my 66 years, and there's nothing like intaking Fresh, cool air after a rain shower-better than Air-Conditioning! These fans uses to be All metal, now they're 50% plastic. Last summer, I had my 2008 fan & motor cleaned, lubed, assembled. But, the fixtures were metal, which screwed into plastic receivers. These receivers fatigued, cracked, and failed. All the maintenance was wasted. The fan, motor works, but has no foundation to place it in the window. I had to order another fan when the older fan was good for another +8 years. Will this new fan have metal receivers? JAY DONOHUE July 16, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by item not as pictured I've returned the fan. The description stated dimensions 16 x 25, and the photo on line represented those dimensions as being the fan only. In actually, the fan is smaller, and the frame represents at least 5 inches of the width. August 24, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Does the job We use it to cool down the house at night; pushing hot air out and pulling cooler air in from windows we open at the other end of the house. August 16, 2016
