can the fan be mounted upside down so the remote will work from below?

I'm thinking of using one or two of these on our front porch -- with plenty of protection from the weather -- but wanted to wall-mount them about 8' above floor level. Reviewers have commented that remote won't work unless the signal is received on top of the fan. Can't it be mounted upside down?

Rated 4.4 out of 5 by 39 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by NOISY!!! This fan sounds like you are on the tarmac at an airport. Even on low speed it is way to noisy to ever get any sleep. August 21, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works well I have an older model as well and all are working great. We use them in our horse stable. July 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Cyclone fan Already assembled with a remote all I had to do was put batteries in the remote. July 26, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Missing the Breeze While this is an exceptional American made product with convenience and reliability going for it..............we so miss the "breeze" feature of the previous models. Bring back the Breeze and we will be blown away gently! June 28, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great fan I'm always a fan of lasko brand. This fan works very well.I do recommend it to everyone. June 24, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Cyclone fan Huge, powerful and cools the entire room! This is a good product but loud. June 28, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good Fan for White Noise and Sleeping Build quality is one step up from the old plastic box fans. Very powerful output, and nice white noise quality for sleeping (blocks out annoying neighbors and barking dogs in their back yard). The low setting is still pretty loud and puts out a lot of air, so if you're looking for a gentle breeze with little noise, this is not the fan for you. If you're looking for a fan with great air circulation properties, and a decent amount of noise to block out other noises, this fan is great! This is also a fairly big fan for residential use. Consider that when buying. April 5, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Just what she wanted My daughter wanted a fan that would make noise and move air, and this fan completely delivered. She is very happy, and it comes with a remote! February 13, 2016
