Customer Questions & Answers

Can you just put this on the window sill for temporary usage?

I have a horizontal sliding window with a 5.5" sill in a highrise and most of the time I don't need a fan in the window so I was hoping you could just put this on the sill with the window opened just so it can't fall out. I see feet on the pictures.
Asked by: chx
Yes it has feet but nothing with this product works. Horrible design. Do not waste your time and money.

can it be used in a sliding window setup?

The window i would like to use this in does not open up and down. It opens horizontally (think sliding glass doors). Can this be mounted/installed in an up-down orientation?
Asked by: Bill
Yes. Just stand it on end.

I need a fan that can set outside the window perminatley so we can open and close the window.

I need the fan to be outside so that we can open and close the window and not have to move the fan every time; my husband smokes in this room and there is no vent so I want to use as a vent fan but am not wanting to do anything but open and close the window. I want it to be able to reach the controls from in the house.

This fan will NOT work for you. It was impossible to install and if you did happen to get it installed you would not be able to open and close window with out much aggravation.

how does the thermost work when fan on exhaust?

I will need this fan to be put on exhaust. pull air OUT. Need more info about the thermostat please. WIll it provide heat in the winter if I leave the fan in the window? At present I have to take mine out because it pulls the heat out of the room. Is this fan a solution to the problem? Family member smokes and I hate the smell - hence the need for a fan! I appreciate your time!
Asked by: Billy
Since the fan is used to introduce cool air into the room in the evening I don't use it for exhaust. I HAD thought the word thermostat control would mean it would TURN OFF at the SET temp. It doesn't!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst purchase ever. I've purchased other window fans before, including Lasko fans. This one far surpassed the title of one of the worst purchases I've ever made. Proper installation is next to impossible. Trying to fit it into the window is extremely difficult and I am considered someone who is mechanically inclined. Even the electrical cord where it comes out of the fan interferes with it's proper installation. The side panels that extend out are very stiff and interfere when you try to fit the fan in the window. Performance wise I can't comment on since I gave up before I got to that point and decided to take advantage of Home Depot's return policy.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Window fan I used this in the vertical position because I have sliding windows in the bedroom where I installed it. The pullout extensions were long enough to completely cover the space not used by the fan. I did have to drill holes through the extension track on each side and install short screws to keep the the extensions at the length I needed because the track locks provided did not work to hold it from slipping back. Poor construction! Because I have screens installed I needed two wood blocks on the right to hold the fan in place. You can use Velcro or screw them on. The fan then slides in behind them and the window slides against the other side to hold it in place. That was all of the modifications I found necessary to complete the installation. The fans work really well and I like the ability to reverse the air flow from pushing air out of the room to drawing air into the room.
