Can you just put this on the window sill for temporary usage?

I have a horizontal sliding window with a 5.5" sill in a highrise and most of the time I don't need a fan in the window so I was hoping you could just put this on the sill with the window opened just so it can't fall out. I see feet on the pictures.
Asked by: chx
Yes it has feet but nothing with this product works. Horrible design. Do not waste your time and money.

can it be used in a sliding window setup?

The window i would like to use this in does not open up and down. It opens horizontally (think sliding glass doors). Can this be mounted/installed in an up-down orientation?
Asked by: Bill
Yes. Just stand it on end.

I need a fan that can set outside the window perminatley so we can open and close the window.

I need the fan to be outside so that we can open and close the window and not have to move the fan every time; my husband smokes in this room and there is no vent so I want to use as a vent fan but am not wanting to do anything but open and close the window. I want it to be able to reach the controls from in the house.

This fan will NOT work for you. It was impossible to install and if you did happen to get it installed you would not be able to open and close window with out much aggravation.

how does the thermost work when fan on exhaust?

I will need this fan to be put on exhaust. pull air OUT. Need more info about the thermostat please. WIll it provide heat in the winter if I leave the fan in the window? At present I have to take mine out because it pulls the heat out of the room. Is this fan a solution to the problem? Family member smokes and I hate the smell - hence the need for a fan! I appreciate your time!
Asked by: Billy
Since the fan is used to introduce cool air into the room in the evening I don't use it for exhaust. I HAD thought the word thermostat control would mean it would TURN OFF at the SET temp. It doesn't!

It is very bulky and will not fit in a window which has a screen because it is just too deep and there is too much of the fan behind where the retractable sides come out from the fan. Getting creative though, I decided to place it in the sliding door which has no screen. Here is where I find out the fan simply does not pull air. Even on the highest setting, the fan does not spin fast enough to pull air in sufficiently. I have had many Lasko fans in the past which worked great. This model however is a major disappointment.

My husband is an engineer and could not get this junk to go into window. The tightening screws do nothing, the top will not fit into window so it will stay in window, the side panels only come out a tiny bit. The design of this fan is a joke. I not only want my money back but wish Lasko would also pay me for all the time I wasted with their terrible product. I will never buy another Lasko product! DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY ON THIS JUNK!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from POOR ENGINEERING FOR INSTALLATION; POOR MANUFACTURING QUALITY 1.. "Window bracing piece" was so badly produced that it did not fit the fan unit. 2.. I jury rigged the fan to fit the window with a home made brace. 3.. The insect blocks on each side to not extend to fit the standard width window. They instruct to make plywood replacements which for the money spent is ludicrous. 4.. We spend a significant amount at Home Depot and know the folks at both units in our town but I've been so disgusted that I haven't returned the fan yet; that's my next step.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from OK for the money decent fan for the price. not strong enough for our needs. needed an exhaust fan to pull cigarette smoke out of a room that's about 11'x24'. it helps, but not as strong as i had hoped.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice little fan for bathroom. Put this in my vacation home bathroom since house was old with no exhaust fan in bathroom. Just make sure switch is on exhaust not intake if you know what I mean :)

Rated 1 out of 5 by from cheap material, difficult to install in a window over 28" This fan does not fit properly in my 33" window because the "expander panel locking screws" don't actually lock the expander panels in place. Therefore I have a gap of several inches on both sides. Instructions say the expander panels will suit windows up to 38" which would be true if the panels would lock into place once expanded. This fan is of no use to me if it doesn't properly fit. On top of that the material of the unit looks incredibly cheap

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great little fan Let's face it. Any electronic home product is made of just about all plastic. This fan is no exception. It's light, quiet and moves air in, out or both. It is much cheaper than buying a window a/c unit but it can't cool as quickly either. The thing I like most about it is if I keep it on low exhaust during the day, when I switch to intake at night, the room is very comfortable. The thermostat is a mystery. The manufacturer provided no instruction for usage. The only thing I have found is that in order to keep the fan running constantly, the setting must be set at full. If it is dialed back it periodically turns on and off. There is no temperature setting to adjust the thermostat.it decides when to turn on and off. I would call this a cycle feature only because you have no way to set a temperature at which the fan will turn off. The removable feet on this fan make it easy to pop it up in front of a window when needed.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Window fantastic I got 2 of these fans over the summer for the cool night breeze. They worked well, I was able to secure it using small clamps to my window. One was placed in the kitchen to draw out the excess heat and fumes that the vent did not get. The only setback is they get pretty dirty and is quite difficult to clean. Otherwise it is a great little product.
