So, this actually works quite well (at least on acrylic) if you use it correctly. The instructions are not specific enough and they are probably the cause of the frustrated customers on here.
After struggling with it trying to cut through with the sharp tip and blade I realized you have to use the hooked point to "dig" the plastic out. Hold it fairly parallel to the plastic and drag/dig using the hooked part. Clamp some sort of straight edge to the plastic to guide you and start slow until there's a groove that keeps the cutter from slipping to the side. Use firm pressure but don't push too hard or it'll get stuck; let the tool do the work.

Purchased this tool to cut a Plasticote panel for a kitchen light. Followed the instructions and clamped the panel, scored and the panel cracked in spots when I tried to bend it. I used a pair of kitchen scissors that worked beautifully. Brought the tool back to Home Depot.

I found another brand of this tool in another store that had better instructions. It appears that the blade is not the part that is used for scoring. It is the tips of the blade and the blade is actually facing away from you as you score the plastic. Previous review said most people don't know how to use the tool and I believe this is correct. I certainly didn't. I also read, when snapping the scored portion off, lay it over the edge of a counter and place a board on top of the piece you will be using for the light. That will hold it flat while you snap it off the piece you aren't going to be using.

I had to replace a big pane of glass in my sons room because our dog (Doberman\pitt) got board I guess while we were out and jumped through his window. I went to Home Depot and got a piece of plexiglass, silicone and picked up this little knife, the only one they had at my location. I got my straight edge and clamped it to where I needed it cut and started scoring the plexiglass. I probably went over board scoring but I really didn't want to spend another 40 bucks on another sheet of plexiglass. Once I felt that the score grove was cut even and deep enough I lined the cut up on the thick side of my straight edge and pressed gently and the plexiglass snapped and the cut was perfect. I repeated the same steps for the other side that needed to be cut and again a perfect cut and a perfect fit in the window frame. This little knife is a keeper! I would recommend it to any one. Our naughty dog Toby is fine and very lucky he was not injured by his misbehavior.

When you are cutting any type of plastic sheeting, please be patient. It takes a number of cuts across the surface to get this material to cut cleanly. This knife works very well. Make sure that you use a straightedge to stay in the same groove and make sure that the cuts extend all the way to the margins. Then, when you are brave enough, line up your cut along the edge of a table or 2x4 and gently push downward. Your material should snap right along the line you cut.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Stooge Waste of money
The previous reviewers were right. The only good thing I can say about this tool is that is was inexpensive. However, even if it cost only a dollar, it's still a poor value. The blade does not score well, the level of difficulty increases exponentially with every additional sheet you try to cut, and the results with this tool are terrible. Broken edges rise from the very difficult process of trying to cut,due to dulling of blade. With the high cost of each panel, find a better way. Save your money.

Those who do not like this plastic cutter simply do not know HOW to use it. I personally used it on 100+ plastic sheets and the tool has never failed. By the way, it is so popular that you can't find it in stores (even if they say online that they have it in stock).

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Vandyman71 Plastic Cutter NOT Worth the Money
Don't waste your money on this plastic cutter, which dulls after just one cutting. Instead, for about the same price, purchase a utiity knife and a 5-pack of blades. I found these cut just as well if not better, albeit the blade will also dull after one cutting. Each blade has two cutting ends, so this alternative is equivalent to a total of 10 of the plastic cutters for the price of one.
