Answer:
If you do manage to tip it over, the plastic blade assembly breaks easily, by cracking along one of the many seams on the hub. I had this happen to two of them, by getting knocked over onto a concrete floor,(long story)

Yes, it is plastic. If you want a metal one then this is not for you. However, for plastic, it does put out a lot of air.

Answer:
The fan guard (cage), base, and blades are made of plastic. The motor casing and post are metal. The product is reasonably durable. You can get an all metal 20 inch pedestal fan from Home Depot but it is at least twice as noisy.

Answer:
It is plastic and not particularly well designed. The grill is difficult to remove and reinstall and the fan must be lifted by the base. Lifting the fan motor will cause the motor to separate from the base.

Rated 3.9 out of 5 by 284 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Ok The fan base needs more weight, the plastic front & back face grills are of a soft grade plastic and needs a more sturdier-thicker-harder gauge plastic, as for its power it's good but the previous critiques would improve sales! September 7, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Very Lightweight Fan I was happy with the price of this fan. It was very simple to put together. However, the part that keeps the blade in place was too small (that is the screw area). So basically I just inserted the blade and left out the part that holds it in place.Anyways it still works fine and it was too much bother to return it so I just kept the darn thing. Plastic parts all around, blades too.Not a very sturdy fan but it does push a reasonable amount of breeze. Though if the weather is extremely hot then you can forget about it. No use in very hot temperatures. August 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Greatest Purchase of the Year Great looking fan that puts out awesome breezes at AMAZING price! May 31, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Oscillating 18 inch pedestal fan - just ok but would not buy again or another one More assembly than I wanted or expected. Instructions cryptic. Does not create as much air flow as I expected. Note: None of the fans sold at Home Depot list the: a. airflow in cubic feet per minute, b. air velocity / speed in feet per second at each setting [low, medium and high] c. air pressure in inches of water at the exit screen Why?? Overall it was a bit expensive for what I thought I was buying Apparently an 18 inch fan does not produce enough air flow and velocity unless you are right next to it September 6, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by JUNK!!!! Just as other reviews, the face of the fan does not fit well to the back and was very frustrating to install. The post does not anchor to the base so it comes off every time you move the fan and locking device barely holds the fan in the extended position. You need three hands to twist it into place because you have to hold the top up, turn the knob, while holding the bottom post from spinning. The Home Depot we purchased this from is a 45 min drive and the closest one so we can't just jump in the car to return it. Very cheap, but looks like we are stuck with it. August 21, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Decent for the cost The fan was easy to assemble and quick. It performed the duty that it was purchased for. Works decent and we have had no issues since we purchased this item. I would buy this item again should the need arise. It will be interesting to see how it works in the long term? September 7, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Poorly constructed The topic front of the fan Doesn't fit well into the back..this is cheaply And Poorly Made September 6, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Wonderful I would highly recommend this fan. The air flow is excellent. Moves the air around the room quickly. I will be purchasing another one. September 4, 2016
