Customer Questions & Answers

How dose the thermostat work

Asked by: Jojo
The thermostat does not display any obvious numbers (such as 78F). It's a blind dial that you adjust by "feel" so that as you play around with it, you'll eventually get an "idea" of where your comfort level is, and then you leave the dial in that position. So let's say you notice you feel comfortable, you will slowly turn down the dial until the fan stops. Leave the dial EXACTLY at that position, and the fan will only turn on once the surrounding temperature exceeds this point. I personally do not use the thermostat function, and I just leave the dial turned all the way to the maximum setting so that the fan always runs.

I want the fan to be shipped to derby Connecticut store how can i make that happen?

Asked by: Kevin
Hi Kevin, to determine if this Weather-Shield Select 20 in. 3-Speed Box Fan with Thermostat is able to be purchased online and shipped to the Home Depot store, follow these simple steps: Localize by using your zip code (My Store Location: Change) and choose the store where you want to pick up the item (Make this my Store) If the ‘Not in Your Store - We'll Ship It There’ option appears on the product page next to the 'Add to Cart' button, the item is BOSS (Buy Online Ship-to-Store) eligible. In the event the item is not able to be shipped to the store, please contact your local Home Depot store as this is a regularly stocked item, and we do not ship store merchandise to a store for online orders. We appreciate your business and look forward to serving you in the future. Thank you for shopping Home Depot!

Can it be used in a bathroom?

Im looking for a fan i can use in my bathroom window to help with humidity and odors (blowing air outward), and also to blow cool air in at night by flipping it around. I'm only renting this place, which is a small cabin-like house and nearly a century old, so window fans are just about my only options...I'm just concerned about humidity because other standard fans i have tried have deteriorated in functionality within a couple months.
Asked by: Jreemz
I know people who have used this fan in henhouses and such, humidity and rain aren't really an issue with this model.

how many CFM? Watts used on low______ medium________ and HIGH_____.

Asked by: thewall1
I plugged it into a Kill-A-Watt, and here are the average readings I got for each speed. LOW: 75 W MED: 88 W HIGH: 101W Running this on low 24/7 (literally, non-stop) costs me about $5 a month in my electric bill. That's definitely worth it, since I use this as an air purifier. (See my review with the attached photo.)

Customer Reviews

Weather-Shield Select 20 in. 3-Speed Box Fan with Thermostat is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 31.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best for price and category I always recommend paying just a bit extra cash for a 20-inch box fan. Not only does Lasko build the best ones in this category, but the Weather Shield pushes more air and has a stronger motor than units which cost a few bucks less. Makes for a great room fan, window fan, or even as the perfect 20-inch fan to build your own air purifier (which is exactly what I did with this fan model, four AC filters, thick poster boards for the bottom, and a bunch of masking tape.) I am happy, and it was well worth the wait, since most places were sold out of this unit. Keep in mind that the Weather Shield does run a bit louder than other 20-inch box fans, but it does not bother me. I just let it run at the lowest setting for my needs, and I quite enjoy the "white noise" as an extra bonus at night!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Powerful - does what I *expect* a box fan to do I was very impressed with this fan (which I chose due to so many glowing reviews). I have previously used cheap box fans from discount stores, which seem to barely stir the air. This fan is well worth the few extra $, due to its power. On high, I can feel the air flow at about 15-20' away. It's not silent, but the lowest setting is easy enough to ignore at bedtime. Works fantastically as an exhaust fan, as well. I'd like to give it 5 stars, but the power/speed knob shorted out after 3 weeks, during which we mostly ran it constantly - turned the knob *maybe* a dozen times. I'll be exchanging it for another of these, tomorrow. (Since I've seen no other reviews mentioning the knob issue, I'm sure it's just a random defect.) All-in-all, this fan makes a huge difference in an un-airconditioned apartment, whether pulling in cooler air at night or pulling out hot/stuffy air.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from much better than standard box fan The "sealed" fan was found on net by accident. I bought it for extra safety in two windows (blowing in-blowing out). It is obviously higher quality than the standard Lasko good fans I own around the house. It is heavier, more attractive, and the thermostat is much handier than expected i.e. if it gets much colder during the night it will shut off with freezing out my bride.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Fan! I love this fan! I use this for a soft noise at night, it moves air wonderfully too! The thermostat will turn the fan off when it gets too cold which is really nice on cool nights! The fan sits in my window and a couple times it got rained on. (oops) I glad the weather shield has kept my fan running smoothly! The fan even looks nice with the stainless steel sides!
