Sometimes ionizers give the air a distinct odor we don't like. Can this function be disabled? Or better yet, does the ionizer give the air a distinct odor?

Yes the fan can be totally manual. In fact that is the way I use it. The on-line description does not make this clear. I had the same concern.

YES. It is great. You can turn the timer on and set it to different hours of operation - ie. 1 Hr - 2Hr. - 4Hr. etc. The remote control also allows you to use this feature.
If you want continuous operation. Just Do Not turn on the timer.

Fan was no longer in my store. Store was decreasing their summer inventory getting ready for fall and winter items. Had to order on-line. Had it shipped to store at no charge. It did take about 2 weeks to arrive. A little longer than desirable, for me.

Wind Curve 42 in. Oscillating Tower Fan with Fresh Air Ionizer is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 363.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great fan I bought fan because u to try a tower fan. I have 2 window fans and a box fan so i was looking for a fan to use in the basement family room that looked nice, take up the space of a box fan, and would be as efficient as a window fan. I must say, I haven't used this fan in 90 degree weather, but have on days when the outside temperature didn't warrant running the central air to coool the whole house off and because me and my family were all in the basement. The fan beautifully pushed the natural cool air the underground basement creates around so well was forced to turn the fan off after realizing we were all fighting for some of the blanket.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great fan I originally purchased a pedestal fan, but it was way too loud even on the lowest setting. This fan is not as loud even on the highest setting as the pedestal fan was on its lowest. This fan was also less expensive that at another merchant. It works great. It stays on all night and is not too loud. It provides just enough noise. We do not have AC in our home, so this is a huge help. It oscillates and has a remote. I would buy another one if I needed another one and would recommend it. I also had free shipping with two day home delivery, which sealed the deal for me. The dog loves it.

Two of these were purchased for Christmas gifts for a College Senior in a hot/cold room and the other for a nurse who works nights and wanted cooling and noise while she slept. Both were happy with the fans. It is the same fan in our home that we have had for 2 years and use the year round.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great fan We use this fan in conjunction with our window air conditioner in the bedroom. Its perfect. Small footprint. Quiet. Made a huge difference in our sleeping as the air conditioner doesn't have to work as hard and so its quieter. Very glad we purchased it. We do not use the ionizer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Mary Taylor I bought the fan for our motor home. We travel & will use it soon. I think I might just sneak it in the house when not traveling. We tried it out & it really put the air out. Can't wait to use it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ocillating Wind Curve Fan The fan moves a lot of air and is quite. The remote is a nice feature since you can stay in your easy chair and turn the fan up or down as well as turning the oscillating function on or off.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Oscillating Fan This is a good oscillating fan and the ION mode is excellent and getting cool air. The only problem was the remote was missing which was shipped later to me.
