Product Overview

Introducing the only permanent filler for concrete joints and cracks: 30 ft. Pli-Stix medium gray permanent concrete joint and crack filler. This product originated from federally specified highway jobs but the only difference is you do not need a 200 Gal. melter to apply it. Pli-Stix is permanent because it is applied with heat (a simple hand held torch) and it bonds to the sidewalls of the crack. Cracks open up because they expand and contract with freeze or thaw cycles - but Pli-Stix will expand and contract right along with mother nature. Medium Pli-Stix is designed for joints and cracks 1/2 in. to 1 in. in Dia.

  • For concrete joints and cracks 1/2 in. - 1 in. (12.7 mm - 25.4 mm) in Dia
  • Hot applied, self-leveling, gray, rope-like filler bonds to sidewalls for a permanent seal
  • 30 ft. (9.1 m) of medium gray Pli-Stix
  • Traffic ready in approximately 20 minutes
  • Chlorine resistant - great for pool deck concrete joints
  • No volatile organic compounds
  • Prevent slip, trip and fall accidents
  • For deep cracks or joints, before you begin fill the crack using backer rod, sand, or stone dust but leave enough room for product

Can you cut the product with a box cutter to make it smaller diameter so it can be used in a smaller crack?

Yes. In some cases I cut it for smaller cracks and in others I doubled/tripled it for larger cracks.

Answer:
We don't recommend doing so as it is very difficult to safely cut it. The same product is offered in a 1/4" size in a contractor quantity pail under the Crack Stix name.

Answer:
It is about as soft and flexible as the product is before installation. A little harder than silicon sealants. It gives a little when pressed on but then returns. Assuming that the area around it is properly cleaned, it holds very tightly to the surrounding material.

Sorry but a lighter will not provide enough heat to melt this product. You will need to use a torch.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Would not recommend. This product was very difficult to melt. (However this same product in black was very easy to work with.)

The original fiberboard deteriorated. The product works well IF you use enough heat. The first time I used a traditional butane torch head, not a good choice for heat and angle. I purchased a hose type torch and it worked like a charm. I had to fill some spots before I inserted the Pli-Stix, I used foam baker rod, although in sone spots that melted and the Pli-Stix sealed down. No problem though I just put another strip in and melted it. Make sure you order more than you need since you are bound to have "sink-spots". It is winter now and the seams are still holing out the moisture and have not separated. In the past have used self leveling caulk type material for the smaller seams but probably would not again knowing now about this product and how to use it.

Not so for me. It was not wide enough and fell down into the crack. Took it back. Thus I cannot say how it would have performed. The company responded to this review by offering a refund above and beyond the refund that HD gave me when I returned the product, a generous gesture. Thus a buyer takes no risk in trying this product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't waste your time I prep'ed my joints, inserted this product, and put a butane torch to it. The product burned and a minimal amount melted but it did not do what it was supposed to do and fill the crack. It just pulled right out. I played with hearing rates and dwell time but could not get results. PNo detailed instructions included not could I find anything online

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Use this for concrete cracks. If at all possible use this instead of caulk. Tip: foam backer rod will melt during installation. Use rope or a non-melting backer. Otherwise the product is great

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product, but too shiny after heating This is a good product. We used a heat gun at high temperature. It took a while to do just one strip across the sidewalk but it filled well and did adhere to the sides of the concrete. It takes a lot more product than I thought. I foolishly filled the deeper cracks with backer rod which just melted and turned black long before the Pli-Stix melted. I've not used any other filler product so I can't compare but this is a good one if you have the patience to wait for it to melt. I think using a blow torch would be a better option. It looks shiny after heating it. I would take the advice of several reviewers and sprinkle sand on top of the Pli-Stix before it cools so it matches the concrete better. It looks great that way.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pli-Stix Concrete crack seal - very pleased It was a little bit hard to find the product in the catalog by searching, but once found, it appeared perfect for my situation, The order went very well - delivered to store as requested and on time. Application was fussier than I had anticipated, but the directions were clear enough. As with many new (to me) product applications, the end of the installation looked better than did the beginning. None the less, the product appears to seal very well and be quite tough. I will not know for some time whether or not it has the durability I expect. Overall, I'm pleased with the product and HD's service.
