It's as big as the regular toilet. Imagine the toilet without the water tank and that's how it looks.

How long can you leave used bags unattended in the toilet?

If I had this for a small cabin and only used it a couple of times on sporadic weekends, can it sit months?
Asked by: mike
I just got hours this month and we left it at our cabin. We used it 3 times and found no odor at all. We will be going back to our cabin next month and will give an update. Since our cabin is unsheathed when not in use, we thought it would be wise to take the battery with us.

Although variable with each user, how much - ballpark - does it weigh when being thrown away?

Trying to figure out if I could lift it and throw it away easily or if it would be too heavy after 15 or so flushes. I know the weight is variable with each user, but just trying to get an idea how "liftable" it is for an older lady. Thanks.

Dont worry about that, it will overflow liquids out long before you actually run out of bags. Ours has been nothing but problems. I contacted the manufacturer just a couple days outside the 90 day return policy and guess what? They will not return this unit. They will only evaluate it for warranty. Do not buy this product it does not work as advertised.

It works well with one exception. If you try to flush liquid only, or a small or lightweight flush,..occasionally the process will lift the mylar bowl bottom too high. This results in non-positive control of the contents. Not to the point of spillage, but I did not like the suspense at all ! The company told me to just add more water to provide the weight to prevent the raising up of the mylar and contents. I did and it works, its not perfect, but its acceptable. Every flush is different depending on the previous volume and configuration of the mylar. The bottom is smooth and flat for the first use of the refill only. For liquids only, bentonite or kitty litter does help. These remedies are slightly counter productive in reference to cost of refills, but we are paying for convenience and this unit returns civilization to the activity. After returning home, there were contents that have been in the unit for 8 months with the very slightest of odor, if any. The red line indicating your near the end of the refill needs to be more consistent and pronounced . There are 15 flushes per refill or more. The battery charge lasts a long time. I recommend multiple liquid uses before flushing for best results. If this product wouldn't have worked well , I would have sold my camping truck.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Addition to my Sailboat I own a 30 sailboat. The previous owner had replaced the holding tank toilet with a Porti-Pottie toilet. I hated that because the tank was so heavy and cumbersome and difficult to remove from the boat and dump. So I have replaced that with the dry flush toilet and I am totally pleased. The physical installation using the accessory mounting kit was easy, and connecting to my boat 12 volt system was also simple. The disposable "flushing" cartridges are easy to use and extra cartridges are super light and easy to store. The system works great, no leaks, no oders, no holding tanks to haul and dump or pump out. I will never go back to a wet flush system and the first modification I make to any future boat will be to install a dry flush toilet

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Beware - if it sounds too good to be true..... This quote was taken straight from their website: “As the waste bagging system is isolated in an airtight compartment, there is no odor or spillage.” I wish it was as easy as it sounds… I was so excited about this product and quickly embraced the concept . I bought one for my RV that I planned to live in full time. I thought that it would be easier and cleaner than dealing with a septic tank. Boy was I wrong. I am having some major issues with my Dry Flush. 1. First I had no idea that the expense was going to be so high. The refills are minimally $50 each. Initially I thought that I could get two uses per flush to cut costs. Wrong again. First - if you do that then when the unit does it’s magic spin thing the fluid does not get fully contained and comes up through the top. Often even a second flushing does not remedy the situation. Secondly - and finding out “the hard way” the bag becomes astronomically heavy. I could not lift it and had to enlist help. How embarrassing. 2. Giving up on the idea that I could get two uses per flush, I began flushing with each use… and still had problems with the unit not wrapping the entire amount of fluid. I had just replaced the cartridge and I had to flush up to 3 times to wrap all the fluid. Leading to another problem… no longer odor free. As the cartridge gets fuller the problem gets worse and I have had urine collect on the inside part of the unit. Yuck. And it is still much heavier than I ever imagined. I am a woman alone with a bad back and a torn rotator cuff, I had no idea I was going to have such a hard time with this. 3. The video instructions state that when you get to the red line you have one flush left. I have not found that to be the case either… you get to the red line and you are done. You’d better just flush it dry right then and there or more of the same as above - overflow. Not fun. I am really disappointed. I was so excited about it initially and it just is not working as advertised. I am sorry I removed my old unit. The cost to use the DryFlush is going to be way more than I initially thought, I knew it would not be cheap - but I was not prepared for multiple flushings per use. I was also not prepared for the weight of the used bag, or the odor. ***Update*** This morning, after the most recent cartridge was inserted, I only got 3-4 uses out of it and when I flushed, it totally overflowed. It’s a disaster. I can no longer use the toilet at all, since I now live full time in my RV this creates a real problem. I have a nasty mess to clean up, again… I had ordered 6 more refills, not yet received, but will be sending those back. I tried to return the unit to Home Depot, they stated that since it had been installed and used it was now a “biohazard” and could not be returned. They said I would have to contact the company directly. Oh fun. I contacted the company via their website and an email. No response. I called and was told they would open the emails and get back to me. When they finally emailed me back they said there was nothing they could or would do. They claimed that since I bought the unit over six months ago it was out of warranty. So now I ask - I used it for two overnight vacations and began living in my RV full time April 1, 2016. By April 11 it is not functioning as promised and they refuse to take it back. Most vacationers do not use their RVs so frequently so the problem may not show up as quickly as it did for me. Is a 6 month warranty really adequate for a piece of vacation equipment this pricey? I was extremely disappointed with the customer service, no empathy, not willing to do one thing to even attempt to make this right. All they told me was that I could send the unit back to them, at my own expense, and they would look at it/repair it, again at my expense. I am not happy with how the company handles issues and their product does not perform as shown on their videos and stated on their website. It’s not a cheap product to buy or to use, their attitude towards purchasers sucks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great alternative when you can't have a regular toilet We put this toilet in the guest room we built above our garage. There was no hope of being able to run a line to our septic system without breaking the bank. After reading the mixed reviews on this, we took a chance and it has worked extremely well. We just put in our 3rd cartridge and it has been a learning experience. Other people have mentioned that urine will leak up when you "flush"... this is true. I read a couple reviews who said to just put a lot of toilet paper in and it will absorb the urine. That sorta worked, but we still found that urine would still leak up - just not as much. So, while changing my cat litter box, I had an idea... how about absorbing cat litter? I didn't want to use clay or crystals for fear that they might rip the foil bags. So we bought the wood pellet cat litter and it worked great! So we now keep a container with the litter in it next to the toilet with a scoop and it's no problem to just put a scoop of liter on the urine before "flushing". I have found it's best to only enough pellets in to absorb the urine, no more, because it will take up room in the toilet. We have also found that this is the solution to being able to use it to urinate more than once per "flush".

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great purchase! I purchased the Dry Flush Toilet (last fall) for an off the grid cabin in the woods. I waited six months to give it a review so that the review would be fair and have some credibility. Initially, I had a problem with the DFT not working - even when it was plugged into a generator. I called the company. They did a quick diagnosis and sent me a new DFT. It has been used several times since and there hasn't been any lingering smells coming from the toilet. I have been so impressed with the DFT I have shown the demonstration video to several of my friends. I would recommend the DFT!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product, not perfect. Good product and I would highly recommend to those who would use this in a camper/rv/boat for vacationing. It is not practical for full time use, you will go broke. My family of 4 used a little bit less than a cartridge a day. Be aware that you will not get a clean flush every time. As you near the end of the cartridge, it seems that a totally empty bowl took several flushes to obtain.

I'm very happy with how well this controls odors, how easy it is to change the refills, how sturdy and well put together it is and how dependably the rechargeable 12v battery holds a charge (for many months in cold weather). I wonder if the people who wrote negative reviews have ever dumped a porta potty or pumped out a holding tank or lived with the trouble they can cause in a boat or an RV. Comparatively, this is a sweet summer breeze.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good solution! Looked for toilet that could be used in an area that had no plumbing for infrequent use. Had considered electric toilets but they were more expensive & had to be vented & needed permanent electric source. This product is more convenient as it does not need installation & operates on rechargeable battery. & doesn't need a water source.
