I bought this mower last year and after a few weeks received a recall notice that there was a problem with the transmission. I waited until the end of the season and the local repair dealer apparently replaced three screws. The second time I used the mower this year the transmission failed and is now back at the repair shop for at least two weeks.
Another point with this machine is that the bag collection sytem is useless and on removal half the grass falls out.
I guess you get what you pay for.

This mower seems to be well built and so far, has started easily. But be aware that the grass discharge system is very poor - the chute to the collection bag has to be cleared many times when mowing a lawn. Also a large amount clippings are dropped when the bag is taken off the mower. Maybe the collection system would work better if the grass were very short and completely dry -which is usually ot the case in Vancouver where I live!
I would choose a different mower if I were buying again.

After owing 2 Lawnboy ( 1993 and 2004 models - both still work ) I wanted to stay with Lawnboy....self propelled again....was very suprised to see how ** cheap ** they have become...plastic wheels...very hard to set in place for height....1 wheel had to use plyers and move all the settings so lever would catch and hold in place. Very hard to keep up with the speed machine moves at .....1 acre of land ....and motor seems to be set at low ....no lever to change speeds ie low to high....very hard to turn and does NOT cut when being pulled backwards. No side chute have to order that part from company and the bag is very ackward to put in and remove ....plus chute going to bag clogs and cuttings are clumping on lawn due to hole being to small also not easy to empty......Getting my 1993 machine tuned up now and will probably use it more than this one DISAPPOINTED ...Lawnboy has always been good till now...it does start with 1 pull and seems to cut well.... @@@@

my second lawn boy. good thing i still have my first. drops clippings on the mulch setting everytime you turn a corner. bag plugs every time you use it. 1 year old, just threw the drive belt " 3 year powertrain warranty" - yeah, right. it's not covered as it's a wearable item.
don't buy this one.

This mower is quiet, starts easy, easy to cruise, bags well & even though the sense-a-speed handle seemed a gimic it actually works well after the cable is adjusted. Time will tell if it is reliable. Highly recommend.

Engine starts at the first pull , self propelled mechanism is great but the grass bag is not catching any grass .. The grass disposal hole is to small and get obstructed imediattly . I'll returne it and I'll look for another one ....

I bought this mower because it is supposed to be the best at mulching. I was tired of having to rake grass clippings after I mowed the lawn. And let me say, this machine lives up to that billing.
One of the first times I used it, I saw a few piles of clippings left behind. I was disappointed and grabbed a rake and a garbage bag, figuring 'so much for that promise.' But as I was raking the clippings, I was almost shocked as they were disappearing (back onto the lawn.) I didn't need the garbage bag at all. Yes, I still had to rake, but it was more to spread the clippings around, and even then, there was very little of it. Moreover, the clippings are so fine, you don't see them on the lawn afterwards.
This Lawn-Boy variable speed lawn mower is light, and the self-propel makes cutting grass a breeze. It's also one of the more-quiet engines.
The only negative I have is it seems to be a bit of a gas-guzzler. You have to make sure there is more than a half-tank of gas or it will have trouble starting. But keep the gas tank full, and you will have no problems.
This is definitely a lawn mower I fully recommend.
