This is a follow up from my first review. I have used Lawnboys exclusively since 1972 and have always been happy with them. I purchased this mower in August 2014. Overall, I am happy with the mower, however, after 10 months of use, the rear wheel adjustment stud ripped out on the plastic and the wheels dropped. Still waiting to hear from them about warranty repair. Got some hemming and hawing about whether or not it will be covered. I see from other reviewers, this is a problem, with the front adjustment as well. Until Lawnboy does something to resolve this issue, I cannot recommend these mowers to anyone .

The engine starts up quickly as advertised, but sometimes runs less than optimum. The main problem is that the disengaged drive wheels can lock while pulling the mower in reverse and cause the rear wheel adjustment lever to pull the pins from the holes and even tear the plastic housing. This happened just after using the mower five times. This is a remarkably poor design. Check it out at the store and you will see the problem.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Sharpiesailor Great lawn mower!
I made the mistake of buying a Toro with a Honda engine, but after 4 years of average lawn mowing ended up being very disappointed in the engine. I am very delighted with the new LawnBoy.
I had had 2 Lawnboy mowers for many years but for some reason 4 years ago I decided to try something with the Honda engine - mistake!
It came very well packaged, with everything needed except gasoline.
I gave it 4 stars because like some other reviewers mentioned it could use better tread on the rear drive wheels, but my yard does not have any significance slopes so it is not much of an issue.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by NikonGuyVB Fully Impressed with this mower
My old John Deere mower finally died after 15 years of faithful service. I maintain my mowers meticulously by keeping then clean, dry and changing the oil each season. I did a lot of research and visited the store twice before making my decision on the third trip. I researched self propelled and found out that front wheel drive is for losers. This mower is rear wheel drive with "positive traction". I also researched the engine - good reviews. But the thing that I wavered back and forth on was the electric start feature. Did I really need it if it is guaranteed to start on the first pull? My heart told me in the end to get this electric start model because I am getting older (almost 60), and it would make my life easier. Well, the electric start is more useful than you might think. I have a lot of things in my yard that need moving to mow under ( benches, chairs, recliners, etc...) With my old mower I had to stop, move the chair, re-start the mower, over and over. I was used to it. but with this mower - WOW. Now I stop, move the chair, and simply turn the key and vrrrroooom! It starts so easily.
Right out of the box, after adding the 22 oz of oil that came with it, and adding some fresh gasoline, I tried the electric start and INSTANTLY it was purring like a kitten.
The TORO electric start model is almost $100 more but guess what??? The included charger and the battery both are labeled TORO. So I believe they make this unit. Nice.
I fully recommend this mower to anyone looking for value, power and ease of use.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by MikeM My First (And Last) Lawn Boy Has Been a Big Disappointment
The first summer I had the mower it ran just fine. I really liked the mower. The second season, the mower wouldn't start using the electric start. The starter motor worked fine. The engine wouldn't fire. But it would start if I used the pull-start manually! Oh, and forget the excuse about bad gas. I had trouble starting with gas fresh out of the pump. And I also used the fuel stabilizer as recommended. Well, here I am, beginning season 3 and the mower won't start at all. It won't even fire after a dose of carburetor cleaner. This mower has been a huge disappointment. I will never buy another Lawn Boy for sure.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Woodhawk Excellent Mower
I am very satisfied with the mower. I'm retired and have problems with my shoulders which makes it difficult to start a mower with an electric start. I've never tried the manual start, but it is guaranteed to start with one or two pulls. It always starts instantly with the electric start. Charging the battery is done with a wall socket transformer once a month. Raising the height of the mowing bed is performed on one side for the front wheels and one side for the rear wheels. Making this adjustment was a little difficult for me, but that was because of my shoulders again. Caution: The front of the mower has a plastic guard and the front wheels are attached to it. Make sure the front wheel axis' are fully snapped into the plastic guard. If not secure, the height adjustment will drop down and you will find the mower cutting the lawn at the lowest setting in the front. I assume the same thing will happen in the rear, but since it is a metal housing, this advice may not apply. The mower quality is excellent and appears to be built solid with plenty of power. The wiring/cables and the battery are all inside the 21 inch cutting width. This mower is self propelled and is controlled by lifting a second cross bar with your thumbs. The full travel distance is about 2 inches and the speed of the mower will increase as it gets closer to the handle. At full speed it travels at a fast walk which might be difficult for some people. I was able to learn very quickly to adjust this control "bar" to the speed I desired or to not use it at all in tight places. Value wide, this mower was well worth the money to me. I have used it for two months so far and I'm very pleased with it.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Andy have to get the key start
I've had surgery on both shoulders so I need some thing easier to start than the pull rope. This is my 3rd Lawnboy mower, second key start. It runs real well, I had to raise the mower as high as it would go because the grass was as tall or taller than the mower, but it got the job done. In a few days if it doesn't rain I will lower the mowing deck and mow the whole yard again to even every thing out. I had to clean out the underside a few times as the grass was so tall and wet underside. I have always liked Lawnboy. I'm a 68 year old female with a knee replacement and keep up with the mower very easy.
