Customer Questions & Answers

how to connect wires to inside parts to cord wires

Is there a quick connect feature or do you just wrap cord wires around screws?
Asked by: Frank
These are quick connect type. strip outside cord insulation back carefully as to not cut the wire insulation, about 1 inch. strip wire insulation back to bare wire back about 3/8 of an inch. Install green wire under green screw clamp. White wire under silver screw clamp and black under gold. It is not necessary to wind wire around screw and I don't recommend doing it. All cord caps have these color codes. If the cord insulation is not in the cap clamp at the back, it was striped too far. This is important for safety and to keep the cord from pulling out of the cap.

15-Amp 125-Volt Yellow Grip Plug is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 32.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fits the need. Works the way it is supposed to. This is an intermediate type connector. Not industrial rated, but not as expensive as the higher rated plugs either. Great general purpose use.I created a 12 foot extension cord. It will carry all of the current that I will ever apply through it.

The one side that flips open has the white and black marked on it. NOT waterproof. The two screws that close it draw down on the cable very well.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nice price, but... In the past I have purchased probably ten or so of these 3-prong, male cord bodies. The issue I have with them is there is no space allowed for the cord to enter the plug body itself. In the past I have always used a Dremel tool to grind away on the plastic clamp in order to make an opening for the 3-wire cord (16 ga.) to pass thru so I could clamp the cord body back together again. If you're up to doing that, as I have been until now... then sure, it works. But I'm tired of spending an extra 10 minutes to make an opening for the cord to enter so it can be clamped securely to the plug body. As it is, it's a poor design and I will have to pay more money for a 3-wire plug body that I don't have to fiddle with in order to install a round, 3-wire cord into.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy to attach One thing that I dislike is the price. After you buy one end or both the overall cost is not at times close to a new cord. I like this style due to the ease of putting it back together. The other model where you have to screw it in from the backside is a pain. Just make sure that you use a good screwdriver with a good tip.
