Answer:
Yes, can be used in a closet (clothes closet?) -- why not; what is your concern? It is certainly not as hot as an incandescent bulb.
Yes, can be hard wired to a switch -- how else should/would you do it (not directly to a circuit breaker without a switch)?

I can find the fixture in the electrical department, but if they break the bulb I have to buy a whole 'nother fixture to replace the lamp. They are not stocked.

Answer:
Buy a whole new unit. Get a different kind if you want to replace just the "bulb". But, that will probably be less compact size.

Rated 3.5 out of 5 by 4 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Works great in small closet We used this light in a small closet on the side of the wall and it works great! Tons of light, without taking up much space June 28, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Great concept - Terrible product! These lights came out in late 2011 or early 2012 as far as i know. My electrican installed 45 of them in my new home in February/March of 2012 because "lights with a cover" were required by my county building inspector under my house (a raised house) at a cost of $562 plus tax & shipping plus installation. The light is an excellent concept HOWEVER ... The bulbs have a 3-6 month life depending upon level of use. I have replaced 6 bulbs so far. Home Depot does not carry replacement bulbs so a complete new fixture is required. A place online has now come out with replacement bulbs at $6.50 each plus shipping. I found several reviews online expressing the identical problems by others. Seems the covers are causing the bulbs to overheat and therefore premature failure! This is an expensive fixture to have such unacceptable performance! Yesterday I purchased a case of the "keyless" simple fixtures at $1.32 each and I just replaced 5 of the expensive fixtures due to more bulbs burning out. I plan to slowly replace all of the fixtures. Leviton should do a complete recall on this product. May 1, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Needed something with a cover I am an electrician. We installed 64 of these in basements to keep tenants from using standard (party and colored) bulbs in the fixtures. They were great.. untill the bulbs started going bad in 6-9 months. I can't wait until someone comes out with an LED replacment bulb. or an LED fixture this size. Home Depot offers special order replacment bulbs for less than 8.00. The entire fixture is less than 14.00 at the time I posted this. October 25, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great design for a utility light I have these in my closets, basement, and attic. I love the look - tough and functional. After normal use for over a year, I've had one bulb fail. The bulbs are hard to find. Home Depot does not carry them in stores, but you can get them online. I am hoping that someone comes out with an affordable GU 24 LED bulb that is low profile that will fit these soon. Until then I hope my original CFLs hold out. April 3, 2014
