I have a ceiling fan with a light fixture attached to it. What I would like to know is can this be used to turn on the fan and light separately so as not to turn the fan off when you want to just turn off the light.

Answer:
It can be done as you requested as long as you wire it independently as per the instructions located inside the box.
Unfortunately, this is a 3-way version...which unless there is another switch controlling the lights on the other side of the room, you'll need to get the single pole version of this to get it to do what you need it to do.

Here is my setup and question.

In the install instructions it shows how to hook up the wires for the 3 way switch as well as the load for the single pole application - my problem is that I also have what appears to be another neutral wire in my box for the single pole application - what do I do with this wire (cap it?)

Answer:
a neutral usually never goes to a switch. a neutral may be present because it was in the cable that ran to the switch, or it may continue on to go to the neutral side of an outlet further downline.

Answer:
Depending on what type of switch (single pole or 3-way) will determine how you will wire it.
You may end up wiring the white/neutral wire to the switch, but you really need to first trace the wires to see where it will go.
Only you or a licensed electrician at your home can determine this, so you can safely wire it.

Is there a version with the single pole on left and 3-way on right?

If so, where can I buy it?

The way the lights are laid out compared to the switch, it wouldn't make sense to use this switch with the single pole on the right and 3-way on the left.

I've looked everywhere I can think to look, thanks!

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great for adding more lighting in one wall switch space This is a great switch to use when adding more light circuits in the same switch box. This double switch lets you add more light controls when adding more lights or wall outlets. August 31, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Double Toggle Switch - white I'm currently having all the plugs and switches in the house updated with bright white. I really wanted to make my ceiling fans be able to turn on the light or fan with a click of a switch. Works awesome. September 3, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Worked great for under counter lighting. We added lights under out kitchen counters and used this switch to add in the switch without having to add another box. June 3, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Super easy You don't have to cut drywall and add box to it just change the cover and you good to go that's my favorite switch combo April 12, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by One out of two We are in the third millennium and yet quality control failed to pick up that the switch I bought didn't function - the three way switch would only stay live in one position if held to that side. Nothing I like better than uninstalling and driving back to get another one. Second one worked as expected, though the positioning is vague; almost like it is a toggle slide switch. January 3, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Warranty beware. This item has an advertised warranty of 10 years which is fantastic until you actually have a failure and need the part now. Home Depot does not warranty the part and will not exchange the part even when they have an advertisement of a 10 year warranty. This switch failed roughly between 8 to 9 years of normal use and the manufacture was willing to replace it, but I have to send in the part for evaluation and then they would seen out the new part. I laughed and mentioned what do I do in the mean time, set in the dark? They finally was willing to send out a switch before they got the old one, but I was still setting in the dark. I decide to drop the warranty exchange, the cost of the shipping and driving to the post office was not worth the aggravation along with waiting for the new part to arrive. I spent the $12 dollars and installed a new switch, the warranty program is a joke and should be a simple exchange program if Home Depot advertised the 10 warranty program as part of their advertisement. I am disappointed and find it hard to believe two large companies don't have an agreement to support what they advertise and sell and make the consumer spend extra money and waste time calling the manufacture on wasted support.
