Older switches grounded through the metal base strap.
Recognizing a ground-fault problem, manufacturers started making a separate ground terminal.

After the new switch is wired up, put a wrap or two of electrical tape around the switch, over the terminals.
This prevents accidental short circuiting and reduces the shock hazard.

Answer:
It is never a good idea to mix copper and aluminum wire;
NFPA codes indicate this is a fire hazard.
In order to carry the normal 15 amp house branch current, the aluminum wire has to be MUCH larger than a copper wire with the same capacity.
Personal choice: swap out the aluminum for copper of the same rating.
Smaller diameter and malleability means the copper is easier to pull through conduit and bend

Good day,
The 1421-2W single pole switch is not rated for aluminum wiring. You can use the 2651-2W single pole CO/ALR rated switch (rated for aluminum wiring).

We have non-dimming lights, so it doesn't make sense to have lutron's toggle with the slider. We want to combine a simple toggler with lutron's faceplate to match the rest of the house. I just need to make sure the size will match.

Leviton's toggle switches should fit with Lutron's Ariadni wallplate, however, you should contact Lutron just to confirm.

Rated 4.9 out of 5 by 8 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Exactly what I needed!!!! This product was very easy to install, it replaced older switches which had gone bad, I have had those since the 70's, the older ones has posts on both sides, so the video attached to this item, made it clear, how to install this new one in replacement of older models, I installed 3 in less than 20 minutes, I like the hardware and craftsmanship, the sound has "new house" sound, I would highly recommend this light switch, these replaced, one kitchen, and two, wash room switches, they work perfect, excellent price for the quality. It was my first time doing this type of replacement, so the video attached to the product, was very helpful in the process. June 13, 2016
