I'm not an electrician, but the features of this unit sound invaluable. An outlet that's safe for outdoors (in a weatherproof box) will be just right for installation on the outside of our new garage addition.
It's a pricey unit, but meets all the criteria for outdoor use in our northern winters.
Self-testing, lighted to show when live. All sounds good to me.

This device, is a Listed, duplex, tamper-resistant (TR), outlet branch circuit protector which will protect against arcing faults at the receptacle and downstream of it , when properly installed as the first receptacle outlet in a branch circuit. Note: strict compliance with the National Electrical Code (2014) may require the wiring "upstream" of this first outlet to be other than a non-metallic wiring method, such as MC or AC cable, or metallic raceway or wireway.
Instructions are supplied for installation, where permitted by local codes, and the "load" terminals are marked with tape to minimize the chance of mis-wiring the supply wiring to those terminals (if that occurs, the device will not reset... following the troubleshooting diagnostics should identify the error).
Self adhesive labels are provide to mark the "downstream" receptacle outlets as AFCI protected. The sliding "shutters" in the device make insertion of an object other than a parallel blade attachment plug difficult, providing an additional level of protection.
Once installed, do not forget to routinely (monthly) test the function, using the built in test feature. Access to this test feature is required, so this device should not be installed in a location where access is blocked. The device is of the "self-grounding" type, if mounted to a grounded metallic box, additional bonding is not required to the receptacle.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Daniel Products you can count on!
Leviton is the company I look for in electrical components. I have updated and replaced all the outlet and switches in my house with Levitron products. Not one has failed or let me down. This current outlet will power my new water fountain. Each wire post is clearly marked and labeled with the power turned off this is a simple ten minute job for any DIY'er.

I got these a while back and had them installed by a professional electrician. I had asked him earlier if Leviton was a good brand to get and he said you bet. They have been around over 100 years.
And he was right! These are great.
I got a three pack of these 15 amp tamper resistant receptacles. The boxes were easy to install. The electrician only took about 5 minutes per box. There is a little green LED light on the bottom of the plug that says it is on. and in working condition. If it ever goes out, as a protective feature it will not engage the appliance and remain safe in your wall.
I would recommend these for any future household update of plugs.

Some reviewers are confusing AFCI protection with GFCI they have completely different functions. Leviton products have been my 1st choice for as far back as I can remember because of their excellent quality.
Arc fault breakers aren't available for my older homes panel box, so to provide arc fault protection these were my only feasible option to get arc fault protection. Trick is locating closest outlet to panel box for the circuit you want to protect. I always start with the one bedrooms are on labeling outlets on that circuit as well & go from there. Installed these will help protect that entire circuit from electrical fire. AFCI will also detect arc problems with basically anything plugged into those outlets as well. Recommended testing AFCI on at least a monthly basis.

For electrical code updates these receptacles are the way to go when you're unable to upgrade at the main electrical panel. My only complaint is they area little pricey compared to the AFCI breakers but when you can't utilize an AFCI breaker, at least you have an alternative.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Zushe Classic ground fault receptacle
When any electrical outlet is subject to moisture - be it in a bathroom, kitchen, or outdoors - it is imperative that an extra level of shock protection be provided in addition to the circuit breakers. A ground fault receptacle provides such protection, and this unit does an admiral job. It is easy to install, instructions are clear, and looks great.
