Product Overview

Leviton makes it easy for you to comply with the 2008 NEC mandate for TR Receptacles in all new residential housing. This requirement results from a Consumer Product Safety Commission study that documented injuries in the home caused each year by children attempting to insert foreign objects into receptacles. TR receptacles have been mandated in hospital pediatric wards for over 20-years and have proven to effectively prevent electrical injuries. As a long-time manufacturer of tamper-resistant devices, we are pleased to be at the forefront of this safety measure with an expanded product line that encompasses a wide range of TR devices in Residential and Commercial Grades.

Customer Questions & Answers

Will 12 gauge wire fit into the back wire (or quick wire) holes, or just 14?

I would love to back wire all of these. But some of my boxes have 12 GA wire to them, would I have to side wire those, or will it fit?
Asked by: Jay
No it won't. While the backstab is easier to connect with, it also has less surface area to make contact with the wire. As an electrical contractor with more then 30yrs in the trade I strongly suggest you use the screws.

I installed and wall switch won't turn off outlet

Hi all. I installed these outlets into my living room and now I cannot turn off the power. The outlet is always getting power and will not turn off with the light switch
Asked by: Pete
Pete check to see if you broke the bridge that connects the upper portion with the lower. Do not touch the silver screws (neutral side, the larger blade receiver), but instead check to see that you snapped the darker screws (hot). You should have one feed (wire) that is constant going to one terminal and the switched wire going to the other.

15 Amp Tamper Resistant Duplex Outlet, Ivory is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 135.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tough design. Smooth operation. This pack of TR receptacles is different from what was available in the past: no TR label and much easier plug insertion. They still have tamper resistant shutters to keep foreign objects out of the dangerous parts. I like how thick and tough the face of these receptacles is. Another brand, sold at the blue and gray box store, has a very thin face that probably won't hold up well over time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works as expected I like that these are safer than traditional outlets when it comes to child safety. It prevents insertion of a single prong, like a kid pushing an object in. It only allows insertion when both prongs are imultaneously pushed into the socket. I suppose nothing can be 100% safe but this is definitely a big step in the right direction. I will be replacing all my outlets with these.

Very good quality, I personally do not use the push in type, but the screw connection, less heat in the receptacle, and make sure you use the ESX bit, no Philip or flat, than you will have an excellent grip. I wish it had the self grounding mounting screw, in this way saves time by not running a ground pigtail, and passes inspection. Overall a good product.

It sits well in mixed modern decorative panels without replacing every outlets. The only complain is tamper resistant make it little hard to plugging cable. It's ok for ocassinal change, but not good if you use it everyday, like vacuuming.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Levi ton 15 Amp Tamper-Res Duplex Outlet The outlets were purchased to replace builder grade sockets. A friend changed one outlet with this one. The builders grade outlet literally fell apart in his hands. I am so relieved that I decided to replace them all. Excellent item--I would purchase again.
