The outlet is always live. The chain only controls the lampholder itself.

I wouldn't leverage the screw in bulb. I want to hang two LED (38watt) shop lights. Each shopliight would plug into this adapter and I then would hang the shoplights nearby. The outlet is activated by a switch. Thanks!

Answer:
Since the pull-chain only controls the devices own lampholder, I wouldn't recommend it for this application, unless you want the plug-in lamps to be on at all times.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Broke After a few weeks, the chain stuck in the fully-pulled-out position, and that was it. June 29, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by perfect for my use I placed this in the socket of a still fairly new porcelain ceiling Leviton lampholder because the chain on the lampholder was starting to hang up and I usually had to jiggle it a few times to get it to release and work for on/off. I found the tension of this white socket's chain to be about perfect and it works smoothly, much better than the chain on the lampholder. I would have preferred that it was made of porcelain, but the plastic does seem pretty sturdy. Will see how it holds up over time. April 3, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Awesome Product! This dual outlet works great! I have never had any problems with it and I would highly recommend this for people who, by chance, like me, do not have any outlets in their restrooms at home.. Awesome product! December 4, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by A bit hard to pull I wanted this item in brown, but the store only stocked white. I recommend this with one reservation. Over the years I've had a number of this kind of socket and all of them were easy to pull. When I tried one of these in the store, I thought it was defective because a normal pull didn't work. You have to pull several times harder on the chain compared to the old ones. Is there some problem with making them easy to pull? Is there some benefit in making it harder to pull? Not a big deal, but I wonder why a designer at Leviton one day says, "Hey, I've got a great idea! Let's make these things three times harder to pull!" I tried a bunch of them and they were all the same. I showed the associate in the store and he said it would loosen up after a few pulls. Not true. Remember the old table lamps that had chain pulls? If they were like this, the lamp would fall over when you try to turn it on. I found an old one of these that looks just like this in my basement. I'm going to use it instead of the new one. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Worked great. Worked great for our outside Christmas display. We used the Gemmy Music and Lights Show we purchased from Home Depot and we needed to connect these items in a certain way. This item was used with spotlights. March 25, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Product This product was exactly what I was looking for. Great for adding additional power outlets where they are none and still retain the usefulness of the light. June 19, 2012
