I think someone change the Switch because it did not illuminated. You have to check the switch before buying.

So evidently the folks at Home Depot recognize my expertise in these matters and have personally requested that I provide a review for this product. Aw shucks ....
I find that many times reviews are more useful if the actual application the product will be used in is described. In this case, the product will be used to turn on and off the lights in the basement and is intended to replace a similar item previously installed sometime in the early 1960's. That's a lifespan of over 50 years. Wow. Maybe I ought to write a review of the original product. Can't help but wonder if this one will last that long. Hmmmm .... maybe I should have inquired about a maintenance contract.
But I digress. The aforementioned product location is at the bottom of a stairway which is less than well lit, hence the choice to go with an illuminated switch. After much careful examination of the available products, this particular device was chosen based on my own rigorous criteria. (Yep, its white). Along with it I selected a cover plate to give the project the truly professional appearance. I suspect I will be asked to write a review about the cover plate at some point, so I will refrain from any further commentary on that subject.
After purchasing the items, I carefully placed them in the covered bed of my truck along with other items for protection during the journey home due to the cab of the truck not being certified as a tobacco-free environment. On arrival, I carefully opened the product packaging and removed it. Then as is my habit, I searched the instructions for any necessary software or operating system upgrades that may have been released since the product left the factory. Much to my surprise, there were none. I was quite pleased by this and it meant I could go right ahead and install.
I'll leave out exact installation details as my situation may not match yours. Suffice to say, once the appropriate breaker was shut off, the old device was removed and the new one was put into the same location. A simplified diagram is provided should you be interested.
After the installation was completed, power was restored via the appropriate circuit breaker. The acid test: does it work? I will spare you any unneeded suspense. It did! Pressing in the top of the switch causes the basement lights to come on. Pressing the bottom of the switch causes them to go off. When the lights are off, the bottom of the switch has a soft orange glow (long-life neon lamp, none of that funky LED junk in this baby).
I just called my wife and she verified that the house has not yet burned to the ground due to switch failure, therefore we can conclude that after three entire weeks in service, this product has the guts and stamina to go the long haul.
The operational learning curve on this product is fairly typical. Some training may be required, but most people should learn it fairly quickly, especially if supplemental materials can be provided, both paper copies and PowerPoint demonstrations downloadable from the cloud.

I used this to wire up with my wife's DIY make up vanity so she can manually turn on/off the lights. I didn't know it lights up when in the off position, so I guess that's a bonus; although if I paid more attention to what I bought I would of read it somewhere in the product details.

Tired of fumbling around in the dark for a light switch? I was and tired of stubbing my toe on anything that could do that job. I purchased this switch and several just like it to replace switches in areas of the house I was tired of feeling for the switch. What a toe and life saver. This switch is just like any switch you install in a box to control lights except when you turn this switch off it has a very small light inside of it that illuminates the large paddle off and on switch. I got the idea from a well known publication that talked about making homes user friendly for ourselves as we get older. The lighted switch seemed like a great idea now and not waiting till I get older. The switch is made of good quality material and is very easy to install. Remember to turn off the power before attempting the installation. With the power off remove the old switch and replace it with the new lighted switch. Turn the power back on and poof you have a lighted switch that is easy to find in the dark. I wish I would have had these when my children were small and still living at home. They serve as a small night light and if they get scared they know right were the switch is to scare away those dreaded night monsters. Could have had more sleep long ago. These are a great addition to any home for safety and security. It could have saved many a toe from getting beat up. They are great and not expensive to replace all of my switches. Remember to be Safe!

Used in conjunction with Philips65W Equivalent Daylight (5000K) BR30 Dimmable LED Flood Light Bulb to replace the light over the kitchen sink. Easy to install and has been working great for the past month without a problem.
