Troubleshooting wiring when installed and the switch light flickers on and off?

We installed the illuminated light switch, but the switch light blinks off and on installed in the wall? This switch operates a bedroom wall plug for a lamp. There is no other light source in the room, but the table lamp. So it would be good to have an illuminated wall switch that functions without blinking off and on when installed.

Answer:
Same thing happened to mine after a year or so. I have it installed in the garage for the overhead light. Was working fine then one day I was getting the flicker. Checked the wiring and it was fine. Finally got around to just replacing it with another just like it and the new one is glowing steady. I suspect this new one will fail and start to flicker after a while like the one it replaced.

After one year, my switch began to flicker and now doesn't go on at all. I don't know, but I'm betting this is not an LED inside it, which mean the lifespan of the switch light is GREATLY reduced. If it were an LED, you could expect a very long life and no flicker.

They are designed just like a regular switch. They connect the same way you would connect a regular switch, with any size wire.

I replaced all 3 with dimmables and the flicker indeed stopped. And yes, the 'ON' position turns the lights on no problem. Read Less

Answer:
I doubt it. Typical illuminated switches require a small trickle of current through the fixture. LED drivers most likely wouldn't allow this (Incandescent bulbs will).

Answer:
Yes. Keep in mind most LED lights still require the use of a transformer to convert from 110V AC... so this switch is actually wired to the transformer not the LED lighting directly. I believe most LED lighting is either 12 or 24VDC..

Answer:
Good day,
Illuminated switches are not designed to be used with CFL or LED bulbs. The LED bulb inside the switch creates line noise and will cause the LED lights you are controlling to flicker in the on position, or glow in the off position.

We replaced about 8 of these and 3 of them broke within the first 5-6 months. The plastic behind it seems very brittle. Rarely does anything in our house break and there's only 2-3 people that live here! We also own rental properties and this confirmed that I'll never use these for a rental. Looking into warranty replacement on these.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to install and looks good I bought a 10 pack of these switches to replaced 20 year old toggle type switches i had in the house. The slip in wire connections make it a breeze to hook up but you still need to wrap the ground wire around the ground screw. (Not a big deal) One note is that you need to pay attention to what is the "top" of the switch so that it get's mounted correctly. If you look closely you'll see the word "Top" stamped on the switch frame just above the rocker switch. Just mount the switch so this is on the top side and you're set to go. once installed the back light seemed a little too bright but at night it does make it's location very noticeable. Nice product....

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great switch but about a fifteen year service life. Bought one of these back in 2001, and now the neon bulb is flickering and spends more time off than on. That's not a failing of these switches in particular but rather is a common failure mode of all illuminated switches. I wonder when someone will come up with a way to use an LED bulb instead, though most LEDs also have a ten to fifteen year service life.
