Answer:
I don't have one of these switches in my hand but from the pic I see there are separate screws for each switch. It's possible that there is a break-away tab between the two switch's screws that can be snapped off, separating them. A pair of needle nose pliers should be all you need to grab and break off the small tab, if it's there.

Answer:
Yes, between the two common screws is a small metal tab that can be broken off with pliers. This will separate the two switches, allowing you to provide two hot wires to the switch.

Do you mean 1 switch controls both? If so you need to separate the wires ,1 set for light on 1 switch, 1 set for fan on the other

It sound like you don't have it wired correctly. Make sure your Line(hot) is on the side with the back plate tied together and your Load(switched) wires on the separate screws. They should be marked Line and Load. Is the wiring at the ceiling box correct?

Answer:
If you find the switches work opposite of how you prefer them to, unscrew the switch from the box and rotate it 180 degrees (flip it upside down). There is no 'incorrect' way to install these so you can make it work the way you prefer.

Answer:
This dual switch will feed multiple loads from a single hot wire, as long as you don't break the metal tab between the common terminals.

Assuming you have power to the switch (vs. power to the light with a switch loop from the light to the switch) you can use this switch to control an additional light. Assuming you have power to the switch (vs. power to the light with a switch loop from the light to the switch) you can use this switch to control an additional light. You'll want to ensure you're not overloading the circuit by adding the new light, of course. After that, you'll attach the blacks from the current switch to the new switch as well as the black from the new light. Tie all the whites to each other and the grounds to each other and the new switch, and you should be good to go.
When attaching the blacks to the new switch, the powered one (line) will go to one of the terminals on the side where they're connected to each other. Each of the light's blacks (load) will go to each of the two terminals on the other side that are not connected together. Read Less

If I am understanding you correctly. You want to use the existing feed to power the existing light and the new light.
Yes...This switch will work both light independently, using the existing power feed. However, take a look at the pic I have attached and it should better explain what must happen in order for you situation to work.

Rated 4.6 out of 5 by 61 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Switch, Installs Easy, Large Switches This switch is the perfect option for our remodel. We use it to control the light and fan on a ceiling fan. It allows us to use one box space rather than two. The switch functions smoothly and has a consistent clicking sound; something that is surprisingly more important that originally thought. The switch is simple to installed for anyone who is experienced with residential electrical work. August 30, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Poor quality control Normally make good products so who would guess that the screw hole for the cover plate would be stripped out and useless? Of course one doesn't discover this until the final stages of putting everything back together. So, cut the power, take it apart, drive back over to HD, wait in line at the returns find a replacement, wait in line at the check out ...basically wasted two hours. Memo to HD: please don't put this back on the shelf so another sucker doesn't suffer the same inconvenience. August 22, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Cabinet lighting Looks great. To us much better than your typical pole switch. We needed 2 separate switches for some lights but didn't have the space for 2 individual switches so this was the perfect thing. Now the top switch for above cabinet lights and the bottom for the under cabinet ones. August 30, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great space saver for single wall switch boxes If you are upgrading controls in retrofits and want to keep switch boxes to a minimum then this is the answer for controlling two items. August 24, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Double Switch. The switch was easy to install. Looks great and functions as described. Seemed a little pricey but does the job required. August 15, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by great switch We bought this switch for our under cabinet lights. Works great. We can turn on the lights under the cabinet OR just the ones over the stove. August 10, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by So far so good Replaced a traditional switch that broke Easy to install They don't sell brown just black Had to use white August 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Does what it's meant to do It's a good looking switch that's shallow enough to sit in wall box and still have plenty of room for wires behind it. The switches fell good when switched: firm but quiet. That said, $10 seems a bit steep. July 5, 2016
