Answer:
This dual switch will feed multiple loads from a single hot wire, as long as you don't break the metal tab between the common terminals.

Assuming you have power to the switch (vs. power to the light with a switch loop from the light to the switch) you can use this switch to control an additional light. You'll want to ensure you're not overloading the circuit by adding the new light, of course. After that, you'll attach the blacks from the current switch to the new switch as well as the black from the new light. Tie all the whites to each Read More

You'll want to ensure you're not overloading the circuit by adding the new light, of course. After that, you'll attach the blacks from the current switch to the new switch as well as the black from the new light. Tie all the whites to each other and the grounds to each other and the new switch, and you should be good to go.
When attaching the blacks to the new switch, the powered one (line) will go to one of the terminals on the side where they're connected to each other. Each of the light's blacks (load) will go to each of the two terminals on the other side that are not connected together. Read Less

If I am understanding you correctly. You want to use the existing feed to power the existing light and the new light.
Yes...This switch will work both light independently, using the existing power feed. However, take a look at the pic I have attached and it should better explain what must happen in order for you situation to work.

Can I use this to replace a single rocker switch that now controls both my bath light and vent fan and separate those actions?

The current switch operates the vent fan and the light bar over the bath vanity at the same time. I'm changing out my vent fan to a combo light and vent fan unit and wondered if this switch would allow me to operate the 2 separately. I only have room in my outlet box for one switch this size. (I have a different plan for the light over the vanity - that won't be part of this circuit after I change out the fan.)

Answer:
Yes, but you may need to upgrade wire from switch to fan/light with another control leg wire. For instance if you presently have 12/2/with ground controlling both fan and light then you will need to upgrade to 12/3/with ground to have an extra control leg wire to separate the control of each.

Answer:
If the light and fan have separate switch legs, then yes you can wire up each leg to one of the switch terminals on the dual switch. If there's only one load wire though, it's unlikely you'll be able gain individual control, and it would require installing a new fixture in its place.

To answer your question, you need to know how the light and fan are wired in switch box now. If there is power to the switch with separate leads going to the light and the fan, then this switch can control them separately (whites tied together, blacks to this switch).
If there is only one pair from the switch box out to the light and fan (they may be daisy-chained), then this switch would not control Read More

If there is only one pair from the switch box out to the light and fan (they may be daisy-chained), then this switch would not control them separately without additional wiring changes.
It's also possible that you have no power to the switch at all and just a pair from the light and fan down to the switch and back up. In this case you would also not be able to use this switch without additional wiring changes. Read Less

Answer:
First, no, you cannot get this in black through Home Depot.
Second, Yes, it can control two different devices (fan, light) independently. It can use the same power source for two seperate items.

Answer:
I don't have one of these switches in my hand but from the pic I see there are separate screws for each switch. It's possible that there is a break-away tab between the two switch's screws that can be snapped off, separating them. A pair of needle nose pliers should be all you need to grab and break off the small tab, if it's there.

Answer:
Yes, between the two common screws is a small metal tab that can be broken off with pliers. This will separate the two switches, allowing you to provide two hot wires to the switch.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Poor quality control Normally make good products so who would guess that the screw hole for the cover plate would be stripped out and useless? Of course one doesn't discover this until the final stages of putting everything back together. So, cut the power, take it apart, drive back over to HD, wait in line at the returns find a replacement, wait in line at the check out ...basically wasted two hours. Memo to HD: please don't put this back on the shelf so another sucker doesn't suffer the same inconvenience. August 22, 2016

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Does what it's meant to do It's a good looking switch that's shallow enough to sit in wall box and still have plenty of room for wires behind it. The switches fell good when switched: firm but quiet. That said, $10 seems a bit steep. July 5, 2016
