This replaces my previous Leviton slide switch, which is the third one I've replaced in about a decade, so, clearly, they don't last! Regardless, after reading the directions, and comparing the wiring between the old and new one, it was a simple replacement (after turning the circuit breaker off, of course!). It has an indicator light (shown in the photo, below), which is user-selectable, but only before the cover/face plate is put on. When on, it is easy to see in the dark, but, uses a tiny bit of electricity. It fades off as you slide the switch to make the lights brighter, and turns completely off when you have it all the up (assuming that's how you positioned it on the wall). It makes a slight humming sound as it is being turned on, but fades as the switch is moved up; it is almost twice as loud as the previous one (I still have switches with the old style), but, you can only hear it when you are a few inches away, and even then, it is barely noticeable. The only issue I have is that the switch slide profile is less pronounced than my previous slide switch, which is no longer available, making it a little more difficult to slide (i.e., the older one stuck out more, so it was easier to put your finger on top or below the slide, and move it, accordingly; this one is a little "stiffer" and is harder to both place one's finger on and slide. As such, I wouldn't recommend it for younger children's rooms or frail elderly's rooms, or where else they otherwise have access, as it may be difficult for them. It works well with my four small (65w) parabolic lights (the max for this unit with multiple lights is 400 watts (600 with a single light), so I am well below that), two of which are incandescent and two are CFLs, the latter of which take a moment to charge, but, dim as well as the incandescents (n.b., not all CFLs are dimmable!). So, as long as ease-of-use and maximum wattage aren't issues, this may be a good choice where dimmable lights are needed.

Works great. Easy to install. Must use a dimmable bulb with it, though.

I purchased three of these switches. One popped about a few days after installed it and no longer dims...it is either on or off. Another of the dimmers causes my LED bulbs to flash occasionally and the dimmer makes a little bit of a humming noise. The third is rarely used so I'm not sure of any issues with that switch.

slides easily. On my new LED dimmable fixtures, other dimmers did not dim them.
This cheaper dimmer dims them low to high and all shades in-between. It is the best!!

Just needed to replace a broken dimmer - there were lots of choices. We decided on one that had a definite 'off' position. Only complaint is that the switch does come with a cover plate.
